Just curious if anyone has every purchased a light from Aquatraders.com? A 36" T-5 w/ moon lights is 90$ where a Current Sundial would be 250$???? What the hell how do they sell these so cheap? Im guessing they use inferior components but who knows? Let me know if you have one and what you think...

PS im not cheap at all im actually gonna spend money on a decent light this week just curious because i know 1 person who bought this and he said its awesome for the price..

If you buy from them you should check your home owners insurance. Upgrade the fire portion.

IMO, i would check feedbacks from real users and not automatically assume its crap just cause of the price.

+1
Relative value is the attractiveness measured in terms of risk, liquidity, and return of one instrument relative to another, or for a given instrument, of one maturity relative to another.

if you are just starting the "hobby"(or addiction) and are not sure about making a huge investment. you can ALWAYS upgrade
dont write it off without doin some more research

From what i read on this company its sorta mixed. They fixed the fire problem like 2 years ago, and the people that do have them are happy with the product. You are getting crappy undeveloped bulbs and ballasts that don't compare to what you would be getting from icecap or another better known company that has a RnD department. You are getting what you payed for, this isn't a Diamond in the rough fixture, so don't expect too much. Its going to light your tank and grow your coral. As well as a better name brand fixture or icecap ballasts and a namebrand compatible bulbs? no way.

The company has to be doing something right otherwise they wouldn't still be in business for so long. But the company is just like LG when they first started out. They reverse design their products and use specs from outdated patents. Im sure they use old molds from other fixture companies for their parts and were using reject parts.

LG did and still does the exact same thing. They have no real RnD department, reverse build, and used to use reject parts and old modified molds that motorola, nokia, ect put on the shelf. Their products are better than what they used to be 2 years ago but they are still generic quality products that work 90% of the time. Their return rate on defective products is insane, and most of the time you will get another defective product on the exchange. And you will NEVER EVER see any improvements or technological breakthroughs aside from streamlining design and simple tech fixes from LG.

Sadly though, when i was looking up info on my name brand washer dryer when troubleshooting a problem, the LG version worked much better with less kinks, better control panel parts, but didn't have all the features. So, you can't 100% rely on the big high priced name brands either.

There not that bad im using one the new ballast are much better they dont get to hot no noise ect. But i would swap it out for a diffrent brand, other then that the fixture itself is good quality. Also i found that the stock ballast will not fire some bulbs not sure why but thats why i switched it out.

I understand what you guys are saying, and yes I am still hung up on older issues, but I also have an issue with buying a piece of equipment and having to change all the guts to make it work better when you could spend your money on another light fixture and not have to worry about reworking the light. Again I wouldn't buy one of their products. Too many past horror stories and too much work to get it right.

Yes it is cheap because it is made in China. And it is not as good as others but I am satisfied with mine which is a 65w PC. Their pc bulbs are also cheap but they are only good for 6 -7 months at most where others can last a year. But their bulbs are so cheap that even when replacing every 6 months it is still cheaper than the more expensive bulbs. But if I had a big reef I doubt that I would use them.

where did my post go?

china = cheap labor.... my cell phone, my dvd player, HD cable box and my flat screen tv, all were made in china or somewhere very close by. does that make my stuff junk????

$hit come to think about it my circuit breakers say made in china as well. im doomed.

if you never owned this fixture and are going by hearsay... you have issues.

id like the people who actually own this fixture to chime in. if possible

Hey

I have an Odysea and no problems, The owner before me had it for two year and has a beautiful tank the only reason he sold it to me is because he moved up tp LEDS. In this hobby with all the electricals we are dealing with anything can cause a fire.... really.... I'm sure im not the only one with like 4 power strips next or near my tank, Remember Water and electricity dont go together.... My point is the fixture is not great but is not garbage either, All my corals are doing just fine caps, zoas, torch , frogspawn.

I've had mine for 4+ years, purchased on eBay from a member called "hommby" or something close to that. same location/zip code and same prices as aquatraders, so i believe it's aquatraders with a different alias. Everything is still working great now, no problems with anything. 250w MH, 4 dual moonlights and 2 65w PC actinics.
