Is anyone on MR an electrician? Or can refer one that can come to my place in the city on the 29th and 3rd?

I occasionally trip my circuit breaker(s). I'd like to either raise the load of a breaker or possibly create a separate circuit for my tank. I've played with running the lights on one circuit and the pumps on another, which helped but I still am experiencing minor issues. Right now, I can't run the toaster while my tank lights are on. Which gets me an ear-full from my GF every now and then.

I just got a DC8 for my AC Jr and was hoping have everything run on one circuit. I of course am willing to pay for the services.

I am not an electrician so take this as a grain of salt. What is the amp on your breaker? If it is 15amp, you can probably change it to 20amp without any issues with the circuit wires burning up from overheating. Secondly, you should find a new GF. :shhh:

Yeah, it is a 15 amp. So is it best to remove, take it to the hardware store to match up? That may be a lot of down time without power to the tank.

My GF has been pretty good with the tank. I'm getting away with a 90 gal in a studio.

Or take a pic of the breaker with your cell phone. They are pretty standard. It is also good to kow the maker of your electrical panel.

That's where you are wrong. You are not getting away with anything. Say that with me. "I am not getting away with anything."

haha, I actually have 20 amp breaker in the circuit box that doesn't seem to be hooked up to anything. So, I think I'll just swap the 15 and the 20.

Im an electrician and most home wiring is done with 12 awg... Its been code for a very long time... New homes and a good planner would use 10 awg for future loads... I wouldnt be able to tell you which way to go or what wire you have in your home so you should have someone look at it...

I second that statement. Just because you have a 20amp breaker in the panel doesn't mean you can just go swapping out the 15 amp. With regards to the gauge wiring, you might have a 12awg comming off the 15amp breaker but you dont' know what is down the line out of the next junction point. You could have a 12awg wire running to a junction box spliced together with two 14awg wires comming out. Best thing to do is run a dedicated circuit or stop making toast.

I'd love to run a dedicated circuit, but I don't think I want to tear up the walls in an apartment that I'm renting. It's not just the toast though. I want to control everything via the AquaContoller Jr.
