How many leds ?

Hi ,Would anyone know how many leds, would take the place of a 150w MH? I would like to get a idea , I am using a current usa 72" orbit and I will attempt to copy the output of 3 x 150w MH and 4 x 96w PC bulbs. Any help would be helpful ! thank you, Jeff :birthday:

usually about 60-70 watts of a smiliar spectrum LED as the halide will get you around the same as a 150w Metal halide. Are you looking to build your own or buy one already made?

Building my own is a good winter project, but first, I have to add up cost! and see if it is worth it!

Do a search over at RC or nano-reef. There are a lot of builds already done, and I'm sure someone has replicated your size light.

There's also an LED group buy going on right now at NR. Depending on the amount of LED's ordered, it could be as cheap as $5.30 for 3W Cree XP's.

I ordered drivers from china, they ended being $25 each, and will run from 9 to 16 3W led's per string, and they take 110v. No need for transfomers and additional constant current drivers. The only bad thing is they aren't remotely dimmable, so you can't wire them up to an external controller.

I used 54 white cree xre4 and 54 royal blue over a 125 gal tank (20x72)when they are all on the color is too bright and too white , I keep the whites at about 75% and get a nice color between 14 and 20k judging by eye and my sps love it I'm going on 10 months now with this light

Sounds cool,but how many do I need for a 150? its alot deeper! do you adjust your white by dimming them ?

on ebay, look up the seller topbright. he is a huge LED seller. i get LEDS all the time through him. i get the 10mm leds from him, the 420 wavelength and UV LEDS, 10k, everything. try that out
