some more dumb advise from the worst LFS store i know

so i went to my lfs store today looking for some phosban but they ran out.i decided to go to petco but they dont carry it.my other lfs closes at 8pm so i decided to go to BLAAAAH btj jungle.i figured it was only dry goods and i know by going there i am giving them money but i needed some.as soon as i go in the owner was selling a gentleman a filter some gravel and was telling the man to fill up his tank get the filter going and to come in the next day and get some fish and start the cycle..they did it to me 4 years ago and now some poor guy will be spending a ton of money and time setting up his tank the wrong way..as he was leaving i said to the man in passing dont listen to i hope he heard me.im only bringing this up because since the last time i was on i noticed alot of new members here and just wanted to warn them about this store..pleasee beware when purchasing anything from thrse people..thanks oh by the way i did not purchase the phosban from them

Do you know if he was setting up a fresh water or salt tank? It makes a diff. I've never been to this lfs you mentioned, and have no vested interest in it.

It is unethical. That being said it is also the consumers fault for not looking into it before their purchase. With the internet their is no reason anyone should be hoodwinked into buying a tank and getting fish the next day. It sucks to see it go down but they are both wrong.

I don't understand how anyone goes out to purchase anything with out doing some research first.

It never ceases to amaze me with impulse shoppers, or anyone who takes the word of one sales person. But sadly, they are the bread and butter supplier to stores. Like most things the money is on the comeback.

Many aquaria owners use Damselfishes to cycle their tanks in this way ,cruel yes but not unusual at all.

I think in a lot of cases it's not a matter of ethics, or even a matter of trying to up-sell. I think in many cases, it's pure ignorance. A kid getting paid $8/hr to work at a fish store isn't the wealth ok knowledge you might think!

Don't know if this was the case at this store, but I see it a lot at LFS near me.

I am pretty sure this happens at ALL LFS's ... whether we like it or not ... This (MR) is a small community of people ... the vast amounts of people that do this hobby are NOT hobbyists by any means ... they just want a pretty decoration for the living room or whatever. They do not care if their livestock dies ... they go out and buy another one. I hate to admit to it ... and it does bother me to a certain extent when I see these things happen, but there is nothing we can truly do to stop it.

What?! You mean to tell me that its wrong for them to keep all those different pets in there fish ,ferrets,birds,giraffes,cats and filthy puppies that beg you to take them away from there(which I almost did when I went in there to buy a background for my tank)? I always thought that was how little Jack Russels were meant to be kept that way they become SUPER attached to the people that rescue them from uuuuhhh I mean take them home from there. I agree that store is a travesty<- bad spelling I know :shhh:

they dont care if the live stock dies off and they dont look at the tank they just buy and buy I agree 100% and for bt they smell and suck. also one day i was going to call the aspca on them they have dogs in their own )*&^% sitting there and the tanks look like they are going to crash if you breath on them. total wash out but you can not keep the stupidity of the lfs stores away from new bees.
