as most of my friends know ive been accumulating equipment and light from various people here, alot have been very generous, i am starting a business should be up and running by mid july to august. i was wondering if a pool pump rated a 3500 gph would be enough to run 4 tanks 4ftL x 3ftW x 10inH? and what size sump should i run? and fuge or no fuge? im still not sure what should i use as a sump, a tank or a pond tub?

solace, cool but it doesnt answer my question, i want to know if a pool pump will be enough, im not looking to buy a set up. i want to know if a 3500gph pool pump will be enough to where i dont need power heads, bulk heads and over flows is what im aiming for. i have a bigger pump but i also have a 3500 gph pump also a pool pump and a ridiculously huge pool pump for huge inground pools, also want to know what size sump to run.

as for the gph of the pump its probably enough, but will a pool pump be safe for your reef, and hold up to the saltwater? i have no idea.

also, i would guess that the chokepoint in the system will be the capacity of your drains.

I would advise against starting a business like this if you are unsure about things like that. Not enough experience only leads to disaster and will only cost you money and damage your reputation in the long run. Alot of people that get into this business retail or otherwise often don't do well. There is a store in long island I almost bought because the guy was making no profit he made barely enough income GROSS to break even so he was losing his balls. I ended up making him a low offer because I wanted to minimize my own risk. He ended up selling to some other guys supposedly for about 5x's what I offered. Needless to say they are now selling the place about 4 months later LOL and I doubt they will have any luck at the price they are asking. So just be careful before you make a move like that.

Check the seals on the pump, if they are 304 or 304L series stainless steel you are good to go, if not, the seals will corrode, then the bearings, and eventually the main bearing will seize and kill the system. I would be super careful with the pump, plus you are going to want to consider the power draw, the electric bill alone will cut into your profits fast.

I think your best solution would be to try and sell your pool pumps on craigslist or in some other way and just purchase a pump specifically for saltwater then there won't be the need for any insecurities with the pump
the best advise yet. it is a brand new pump, never used. i got it from a friend who installs pools for a living. he says he even uses them on ponds

triggerman i have the experience, and i do like peoples opinions and i respect ur opinion but in a way u kinda dont know how to go about the way u say things to people. respect is key to getting ur point across, not by insulting people. my decisions are mine and solely mine, i simply asked about an opinion on a pump and not if i should open a business or not. sometimes in life u have to try in order to see if u can succeed. better me saying i tried then i thought about it, when u try things happen, it makes u a better person and thats what makes people move forward, trial and error, if i fail itll only make me smarter in my decision making.
