I WANT TO BREED CLOWNS, I DID IT WITH CONVICTS (FRESHWATER) AFRICAN CICHLIDS(BRAKISH) AND NOW IN SALTWATER I'M GIVING CLOWNS A SHOT.

so i have a 75gal, and i was wondering the following
1. is one clown easier to breed then the other?
2. in a predator-free tank (just 2 clowns and their babies with some small gobies, will sucessful breeding take place?
or option number three

3. is a 75 too small for a maroon pair and clarkii pair only (total of 4fish in the tank, no gobies)
4. will my fellow MR buddies help me? (resulting in GS maroons or clarkiis for cheap, if im successful)

As for direct answers to your questions:
1. I don't know.
2. Breeding will happen if the clowns are happy. Raising them is a different story.
3. While I don't know for sure, I would imagine that the less stress you put on them, the more likely you will be successful, and multiple clown types in one tank can stress them.

parents = predators . I am sure you would have a much better success rate to put newborns in a separate tank away from everything. ie: parents, other fish, powerheads/overflows. It also becomes an issue/huge expense when trying to adequately feed babies in a large tank. Not saying you couldn't successfully breed them in those settings, just saying you'll most likely need a couple more tanks. :spin:

Sorry, I can't help you with this one.LOL I've never tried to breed salt water fish. All the others you mentioned are easy to breed, as they would breed no matter what.
I do imagine though that the biggest issue would be raising the babies. Proper setup, multiple feedings hence multiple water changes.

Have you read anything on raising the babies? (not saying you haven't ... just trying to gauge your knowledge of breeding clowns and raising the babies)

Nothing wrong with giving it a shot ... but be prepared to fail at the beginning ... everything is a learning process. Don't kick yourself in the butt if you kill all of them. Personally I do NOT have the patience to do this hence why my clown's eggs feed my tank. lol.
