I think the FX7 was my first kit too. I wish I still had it. I had a lot of fun times stomping around with that bad boy. My uncles put it together for me. Did it come with all the servos and the remote? Can't remember if they came together...

I think it came with the old school 3 stage speed controller that had the servo arm would attach to it and would slide the metal tab along the wire then full out was the plate at the end of the stroke- and until you had it adjusted to the right length it would go full out the dead cause it passed the plate then when you let off it would take off again as it went back across the speed controller contacts lol. Made me look like a real dummy haha. I think the servos came with the remote like they do now and maybe had to buy the speed controller? cant remember. I do remember the crystals though lol

Getting a little off topic :happysad:

I still have two Tamiya Super Shots. Both with many period correct racing parts. One of them was my first RC car. I got it as a gift back in 1986.

WOW! you still have the original era racing parts and even to still have those kits is amazing like wonderballz said I wish I still had that FX-7 was an awesome little car. I think that came out around 85-86 too cant remember I think I was 10 or 11 so that would make it 86-87 ish.

Also you guys remember when the Avante came out? was built strictly to whoop the RC-10's ass? At least thats what it seemed to be to me, everything written up about it was based on all the features were better and more hi tech then the RC-10. I still remember the box the body was a mostly blue paint scheme and the wheels were gold- was like the Clodbuster of buggies EEEEEEXPENSIVE, but if you put the red diamond motor in it it was supposedly hell on wheels back then. I wanted one SOO bad but my father almost crapped himself when he realized how much it was--I was then banished back to my FX-7 lol.

My first was a frog. I got the hornet grasshopper and grasshopper 2. I saved all of my paper route money and got them. In high school I got the stadium blitzer. After I got a real job I bought a bunch of new ones and a couple of parts cars and restored them.
I still have them in storage.

Nice car flipit I wasnt familiar with any of the gas cars- you said you raced all over the world with that one? Where are some of the places you went? I thought I was lucky to race in East Meadow... and I dont have the set of you know what to fly helis or planes- my luck it would wind up in someones bedroom via a window hehe

NICE!! must have been cool to race all over like that- I honestly miss the old days when it was more popular so limited now a days on where you can go and even the racing circuits because of limited tracks you have to go all different states to compete for a year- was fun having local tracks

.....The only thing is once you get one, you want more and more and more and you also want to MOD MOD MOD them :lol2: Kinda like reefing!

So true. My first was a small cheapo from radio shack. Then I got another 1/10th scale from them. They were pretty fast but soon I found myself getting hooked. Grasshopper2 and the RC10 buggy before I made the leap to nitro. First, the 1/10th buggy and then the 1/8th. The last one I got was a 1/10th nitro tour car by Traxx with the onboard starter from bruchner's hobby and raced it behind the whitestone cinema. The popular onroad racer was the serpent at the time. I still have them. Some at my parent's house and some at mine collecting dust.

Nice lone I think youll like it I love my RC10 buggy let us know when you get it and post some pics if you will once its assembled. You started a great thread- a lot of old school R/C convo is funny to see the similarities- we all have tank yet we all have had R/C cars throughout life- many of us had the same kits as each other lol hmmm..:scratchch

The mgt 8.0 is nitro correct?

Not to mention that both are money pits. This thread encouraged me to grab my HPI nitro from my parents shed. It needs a new motor and a new drive gear and new servos. I wanna get it running again, but I am not sure I wanna invest money into it right this moment. Having too many hobbies doesn't exactly go hand in hand with having a toddler.
