Hawaii Vacation In Aug

Hey guys, I'm taking my fam on a hawaiian vacation in aug of this yr. I plan to go scuba diving for the first time. I have 2 questions. I want to get my licence before I go. Do anybody know a place in ny ( bk, bx, Q, Man ) that does it? And if I see some corals or fish I may like or buy, would I be able to ship it to myself?

You can, BUY fish there and have them shipped, but no corals are allowed to be removed from the ocean, there. No 'reef' tanks in Hawaii!

If you're going to Oahu, I have the name and # of a diver, there...the fish are cheaper...but they know the value of things, like a black tang, and flame wrasses...you won't 'steal' it!

I use Panaqua on the lower west side of Manhattan to service my gear, 42nd and 9th.
The people there are always nice and knowledgeable. They have classes and organize trips.
Though when I was in Turks and Caicos the local instructors there didnt have great things to say about New York dive clubs. So I never booked with them.

Wherever you choose, I would do the classroom and pool dives here and get a referral and finish the class in Hawaii. It is a very common way of getting instruction. If you dont you may end up diving somewhere better left to experienced divers. Like some dark cold quarry or off a beach in tidal surge.

i highly suggest getting you mask fins and snorkel in NYC, there are discount SCUBA stores in NYC if you dont mind a little hassle.

believe it or not...even in Hawaii, they've heard of EBay...

I did the class and pool work here and then did the referral there. I recommend Waikiki Diving Inc out there. Great prices and good people.
