Hey 32Bit....been running my Aeroforce for a few days now and reading, reading, reading.....im having a bit of trouble w microbubbles....but i will keep tinkering...and its only week 1...
Ive decided theres no need to run the whisper and may only serve to add trates over time if not cleaned regularly...
As Beerfish stated so eloquently....the skimmer need to be sufficiently tall to give the bubbles time to spin around and rise in the chamber and the aeroforce is a good 17" tall....
Im also eventually considering adding a 15 gallon sump as well (if i can get the damn thing in the stand w/o having to take my tank down):scratchch
and this skimmer will easily fit a tank that size whether u sit it in the sump or hanging off it....
heres a sensible article i read; if ur still unsure about using the whisper....http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/...-filtration-101-how-differs-freshwater-31955/

Nobody has mentioned the Warner Marine H1. Similar in size and price to the CPR Aeroforce. I'm considering an H1 for my Solana but I'm not sure if I need more skimming capacity than I'm getting from my modified stock skimmer.

Thanks for all the inputs and thanks for the link Rayzor. I guess replace the whisper with a HOB protein skimmer is my only option.

The sump is out of question, no room for it. I have a tropical tank under my SW tank.

Why would you guys recommend a CPR aeroforce over a CPR remora?

Rayzor,

The reason I'm using a HOB is hoping it would catch left over food and particles in the water and I dont want to see it laying around collecting dust. Also the Whisper is very quiet and it holds my 50w heater perfectly.

I dont worry about nitrate since my chaetomorpha would take care of nitrate and phosphate issues. They are all zero when I tested last time.

I dunno nutin about nutin.....but in my reading before buying the Aeroforce...most reviews of the Remora were poor....As for the Whisper HOB question...i know that CPR make something i think they call they call the Aquafuge2...its a small HOB refugium that im sure will hold ur heater and chaeto (i think)..it also has a skimmer attatched to the side of it....u can check it out here:http://www.marinedepot.com/CPR_Aqua..._On_Refugiums_Sumps-CPR-CR1727-FIRFEB-vi.html
Bit pricey...but it may be what ur looking for.....

Actually I used to own a CPR Remora HOB skimmer and it pulls the green tea like stuff out of the water well. So the CPR aeroforce works better? I have the Aquafuge 2 on my tank now, but it doesn't have the skimmer attached to it. People said the Aquafuge 2 with a skimmer on the side is a bad design because the skimmer would kill all the pods in the fuge.Yeah, it's also very expensive.

No worries Rayzor. All inputs are greatly appreciated. So far, the newest CPR HOB skimmer looks good. Do you own one? Is it quieter than the remora? The tank is in my bed room, so noise would be an issue.

Thanks.

My info about the Remora is taken from reviews i read....the aeroforce is the first skimmer ive ever owned so i cant really judge....my impression is that it is too loud for a bedroom....but i have seen others reviews that say that it is very quiet....like i said i have no frame of reference so i dont know how loud any other skimmer can get....
Now u got me wondering if i can hang my heater from it so its out of the DT....my only worries are that it could melt the acrylic or the wire or intake tube that sit inside the sump area of the aeroforce.....also space is limited in that section......
Anyone else out there have any experience with this.....any other aeroforce users out there....who can advise us?
But i cant imagine that a hangon skimmer on a fuge would destroy a lot more pods than it would hanging from ur DT.....if anything i see more and more pods in my DT everyday......much of the pods i have are happily crawling on the rock work....and the smaller copepods and isopods are chillin on the side glass of the tank.......

I dont think the heater will melt anything because the constant cool water movement will keep its temp at a desired degree. My heater has been in my filter for several months now and I haven't noticed anything melted.

I guess...but like i said...on the Aero...the inlet tube and the power cord for the powerhead...run thru the sump/return area....
CR1191_98.jpg
my concern is more....short circuit if the heater melts thru the powercord....i think may
images.jpg
be better safe(in the tank) than sorry in (the skimmers sump) at least for me.....as far as the heater is concerned....
