Im looking to purchase a RO/DI unit. Some of them can be really expensive and they have different stages. What does that mean? Im trying not to kill my pockets, but I dont want a really cheap one. What should I look for and where would be the best place to find it?

It all depends on what your water is like and how much pressure you have, etc. I have HARD well water and high CO2 and it requires different than good NYC water to make all zeros.

I also was in your predicament and I will PM you where I learned and purchased from because I am not sure if I can post it here. Jim was extremely helpful and very experienced on what he is selling. I thought I needed things I did not, and I did need things I did not think I did.

I am very happy with the results since I got this RO/DI Unit.

Unfortunately for me I have low water pressure <40" coming from a well loaded with phosphates and calcium and HARD. The boost pump is needed to make the unit work effectively. What you see in that photo is actually missing the GFO and Silicate removal canisters I thought I needed before I bought.

I have been told by people at the major fish/aquarium supply houses that my water was not such that an RO/DI unit would even work here.

The reason I am running a dual DI resin setup is CO2 and that every hundred gallons of water I make, I go through the first inline DI cartridge and half the second. My options are to use a lot of DI or to get a reservoir and put an airstone in it and let it sit bubbling for at least 24 hours then run it through the DI canisters. I just bite the bullet and buy a lot of DI resin.

I guess my point here is that I knew nothing about this other than it would not work with my well water before I talked to Jim. I go though about 80 to 160+ gallons a week to do the water changes on our tanks. We are about to downsize and sell some BioCubes and HQI Cubes soon though thank goodness.
