Hi Reefers:

For those that know me, you might have noticed I haven't been here on the board. Recently, my tank crashed. The cause of the crash is not 100% but i believe it is from my RODI water. I have a seperate RODI setup where the water is poured into a 20 gallon black tall bin. Then I pour from there to a small 5 gallon bucket that is dark grey. Then I pour the water into my tank. Not realizing that I was putting in green very high in nitrate water. I didn't realize that it the bin was polluted since I havent cleaned in in about 2 years. Lost all my SPS, and LPS and my softies are struggling. It's very depressing to look at old pictures of my tank and look at how it looks now. All my fish survived the crash but life in my tank is not the same without all my corals. I also lost about 80% of all my zoanthids. I am in a slow process to get my tank up and looking the way it did any possibily even better then before. But I know it will take time and patience. As I have strong passion for this hobby I do not intend to give up.

That sucks.

What do you think polluted the container? Was it near a furnace, chemicals, something like that? Did this container always have water in it, or would it be drained dry at times? I'm sure many of us could easily make the same mistake.

Nice gesture bigsink. All I can offer is some hitchhiking aiptasia from my FOWLR tank. :(

Thanks everyone for the helping hand in getting me started. I will wait out at least a month before I put in any new corals into my tank. Just dont want to cause another global warming episode in my tank. The family is good, my girl is growing big and now she is all over the place and has started to show interest in the tank, scaring the fish by banging on the glass lol.

There was no chemicals. There was always water in it. When I looked inside and rubbed my hand against the walls of the bin it was slimy and very green. When I cleaned the bin out it was very very green. Most likely i was putting in nitrates into my water without even realizing it. Those that know my tank or seen in the past it is very simple setup without a sump just a HOB filter and skimmer. Thanks again for the help. Ill harass you in a month j.k.

Sorry for your losses. This hobby can be very taxing sometimes. sounds like you had some bio-film buildup on the sides of your storage container. I find I get that in my salt mixing container if I leave it for more than a few weeks. Not much buildup in my fresh water vat which gets more turnover. I do try to empty both vats monthly to avoid too much buildup. I could Imagine that two years could acquire quite alot of buildup. I did not realize that this could be toxic. Thank you for sharing this so others can avoid this happening to them.
