I am looking to upgrade to a nicer tank. I recently came across the site www.glasscages.com and noticed that they have extremely nice prices for their starphire tanks...i priced out a 190g starphire tank at approx $1300.00 48 x 36 x 24 Tall... whats the deal with this site? too good to be true? this company is out of Tenn....

The deal is you get what you pay for in terms of craftsmanship and customer service. The prices are unbeatable for sure. The silicone work is sloppy ( to me I don't really care as long as it holds water as in a full reef you really don't notice the silicone) and I highly recommend buying only systems and hole/overflow configurations that they list --anything outside their usual range and they screw it up. And if they do screw it up, they are not easy to deal with.

Lots of bad experiences out there, and lots of good ones too. Thankfully, I am one of the good ones. They deliver to the big reptile shows (White Plains and maybe elsewhere local) so you need to be able to pick it up and transport it from there.

It is true the silicone was sloppy, I had to clean it up. Also FYI my tank only has the three sides exposed, it's otherwise covered. If you would like to see it fist hand let me know , I'm in prospect heights.

I got royally screwed by them. They messed up my tank the first time, then didn't bother to rebuild it, nor tell me that fact. I drove up to White Plains and they're like "We're not building your tank" No notice, no 'Sorry' just "You're SOL."

I don't think they're using actual Starphire glass, either. It's a generic knock-off low-iron glass. Is it less green than regular glass? Sure. Is it as clear as Starphire? Hard to tell.

Spend a little more elsewhere and get a better tank.

Just my $.02

Silicone is sloppy and also don't think they use the brand name low iron glass (aka starfire) or optiwhite which is used by some other builders.

Holds water and built well. My experience with them was good but that's because I opted for something simple. I didn't want them to drill any holes for fear that they would be the wrong size or in the wrong place. I decided in a glass-holes overflow instead and had it drilled locally.

For a nominal amount Miracles is the best....I priced out two tanks (for a future build) one with glass cages and one with miracles and it only came to maybe $200 more with miracles...Worth it IMO.

Another glass builder I have talked to is coast to coast which is more than miracles (and that includes the shipping from miracles) but local.

My next tank will be with Miracles.

If you are considering acrylic Envision acrylics is really nice as well.
