Smelly sump

I added a much bigger skimmer to my sump and have been noticeing a damp like smell around the tank my wife hates the tank already so I need to get rod of this smell pronto
Thinking it might be from the tube leading to the collection container I'm using seems to blow air into the skimate??
Any ideas

nope. i dont use a collection cup (tho i have two just lying around) i just clean the skimmer every other day...i only notice the stink when i open the cap lol. whats ur skimmate look like? its perfect when its almost black.

This skimmer just fit in my sump it would be a real pain to remove the collection cu everyday

ahh...yea i had that crisis till i found the one that fit perfectly. theres no holes on the skimmer cap. how often are u cleaning the cup?

Are you talking about the collection cup drainage?

To get rid of the smell just make sure you are emptying the skimmate in a closed container.

My waste collector has a little vent filter container that you fill with carbon. It keeps the smell from getting out.

I took it out to clean it yesterday because it was full. I had several gallons of Nastiness in the waste collector and could not smell event a hint.

I bought a waste collector that has the feature built in...but the basic idea is that all air that leaves the waste container has to pass through a little chamber full of carbon.

The carbon adsorbs the stench.

Exactly what I was going to say carbon is always good..if you aren't sure if it's your skimmer if anything run some carbon in your sump as well.

the carbon is a great idea for a collection cup or waste container...you saw my skimmer set up it drains into a 5 gallon water bottle and I just pour alittle bleach into it....room smells clean all the time...LOL
