Ok, so I've been noticing this trend where someone posts about a tank/reef related issue and asks for help and people either pm a solution to the op, or tell the op to pm them. What's that about? A couple of times I've even sent pms to those persons because I'm interested too but don't always get a response. Wouldn't it be better to post all suggested solutions publicly so that we can all benefit, and that someone with the same questions later can get the info from the search feature? What's the deal? No need to be shy.

Some people might do it out of fear that other "Know it All members" might jump down there throat if they don't agree with their solution. I haven't noticed it here but I have on other sites.

But wouldn't know OP not have any solution to disagree with... hence posting?
Its the OP who requested to be PMed... not the solution giver

I agree, it makes more sense to post the reply on the thread, the only reason why I would think they request to be PMed is because they don't check their own thread, whereas the PM's get notified via email (they don't know how to subscribe to a thread or something?)

I've heard that complaint, but we all benefit from the suggested solutions, "counter" solutions and criticisms of solutions. I've learnt a lot from the "bickering" too. At least you get exposed to the various approaches and options. For me, even when I'm offered a solution I still do more research before I try.

++ 1. It's as simple as a word called respect. Not every problem has one solution. That being said anything that could help others should be posted in public for everyone to learn from . But if a person request an answer be pm"d
there entitled to that i guess.

Same reason some people request PM's in a sale thread. It's easier to quickly check a PM than find the thread and look to see if anyone has responded.

While you can subscribe to a thread, I almost never do, since my inbox gets flooded with so much other email.
