ok just wondering whats the best way to keep my salt for water changes?

i usually keep it mixed in a 5 gallon jug,but i dont know if thats the best way

i have noticed the 5 gallon jug seems to be getting discolored from the salt and dry salt build up inside after i empty it

should i wait to mix the salt until i do the actual water changes?
or would that not be good, would the salt be mixed enough if i wait till that day?

any help on this issue would be great thanks.....

I do mine at least 24 hours, usually a little longer with a powerhead and heater. That way all the gas exchanges and chemical changes of the water are definately completed as well as the temp will be the same temp the tank is guaranteed and the salinity levels will be exact.

I do not keep saltwater mixed before hand- I make enough to do my water change and the only thing I keep stocked is RO for top off.

You can do it however you want- if that works for you then do it that way and just make sure to clean the jugs up real good every now and then when they discolor like you said they do. It just is easier to me to do all the measuring and salinity matching on a batch thats heated to the temp right then and use it rather than having to retest it at time of use is all.

Is no right or wrong way if it aint broke dont fix it. Just really make sure to test the salinity after reheating stored water because evaporation happens even just sitting there and then from reheating.
