so i figured id post my intersting experience aver the last few months, so in june i had bought 2 milli frags from zuska as a test to see if i can handle them. soon after the frags being added they started to encrust the plugs, sign of good conditions generally. so in aug i added 5 more sps frags (provided by "musictoyourhome") and they have been encrusting as well and at quite a steady pace. so the funny part is.....i have very little polyp extension and that is due to my nitrates being high but they are all continuing to grow. once the N03 are down to 0 or about that im sure im going to get the polyps to come out :)

lol weird.

(this isn't a help me thread im working on getting the nitrates down)

How high are the nitrates? I'm not convinced they are affecting your polyp extension at all. Unless they are super high, IME corals don't really care much about nitrate and in fact quite enjoy the presence of some @ 5ppm or so. Now, in combination with an elevated PO4 level, nitrate is not a good thing, but it is really the PO4 that is the bigger culprit. What are your Phosphate levels and how are you measuring them?

I have seen David's tanks. He has nice growth, but small polyp extension, where as, I had good polyp extension, BUT somewhere along the line they started to bleach. I had a Bali slimer which looked good for a while, but bleached out. It is in David's tank to hopefully recover, but not sure if it was too far gone. if not, then, it's ok. Just have to do more reading and figure out what the problem is.

IMO, when PO4 is even detectable on the salifert, then its pretty high. I've done a comparison test between the Hanna and the salifert and even when my PO4 was .18, the salifert still says zero. Its only when the PO4 is really high, then the salifert starts seeing some PO4.

Everything is fine besides the n03. I have no nuisance algae no cyno none of that bad stuff. That another confirmation that my p03 are low. I just need to up the water changes. Oh I should also say that my RO TDS was reading 18, replaced all the filters and its back to 0 so that's also a contributing factor to the high n03

Just because you don't see them nipping doesn't mean they are not doing it.

I can't see your signature with this MR app but it sounds like you have several iffy fish in there.

If all the parameters are checking out the fishes would be my prime suspects.

After the n03 no? And the filefish are trained on pellets so they don't have much interest in acros as of now...
