Question about dry rock

so my friend has a bunch of dry rock that has been sitting outside of his house for a longgggggggggggg time but in trash bins. so my question is are they still good to use? yea i know it will cause a cycle. so whats your opinion!

i would use bleach and let soak for 24hrs in a bin then hose them down and let air dry for 2 days, some other people use some kind of acid to make sure its clean of any algea

Is bleach safe to use for a saltwater tank? That is one of the strongest chemicals.

dont just bleach them and throw them in your tank, but yes you can bleach the rocks, let them dry and then cure them (or some variation on that) fwiw, i think marcorocks uses muriatic acid to clean their rocks.

thanks for the help! so basically i can just clean it off (like get the dust/dirt off) and throw it in my tank to cycle (this is going into a new tank so i will have to go through a cycle anyways)

yes bleach is safe as long as it air dry, people bleach there filter socks with no problem as long as air dry
