Ok so I just saw my son squirting something into one of my tanks!

It's contacts rewetting drops..I don't know if this is a nightmare about to happen or what I am unsure how many drops he squeezed in put I saw him over the tank w/ the drops about to drop in and I flippeddddd! LOL

It says on the bottle a sterile buffered isotonic aqueous solution containing boric acid,sodium borate,sodium chloride and polyoxyethylene preserved with sorbic acid and edetate disodium. I'm guessing it's just like a saline solution but could this be a problem for my tank?

it doesnt hurt to do a water change... how much was it? few drops or a good amount? did your skimmer react to it? or get bubbles on top of your tank?

I have no idea how much he put in if any. Like I said I saw him with his hand over the tank holding the bottle with drops about to drop in and I flipped. I am just trying to see if there is any potential damage that could be done because of this. I actually took the skimmer off that tank to put it on a smaller tank and upgrade that one but I did not get a chance to put in on yet.

ha i wouldnt worry my dauther took nail polish when i had my 38 set up emptyed out the whole bottle i thought it was a gonner for sure and nothin happened lol the corals seem to like it lol......

It shouldn't hurt fish or corals but some of the ingredients in there are preservatives to keep bacteria out of it. My guess is its probably diluted enough that it shouldn't do any damage to your biological filter but you might want to run carbon to be safe.

I doubt it will have extreme effects, or any effect at all. They are eye drops, so the solution can't be strong at all considering they are going into our eyes, which are super sensitive. Also, how big was the bottle? was it like the standard size of visine? Cause even a whole thing of visine would probably just mix into the water but not have extreme effects.

lol yea its a small bottle.5 oz and I think it was like 1/2 empty to begin with,like I said I was just flipping because I am nuts with my reef. I'm not worried anymore everything looks ok. Thanks guys

+1 boric acid would be my concern but you must figure its a small portion since it is going in peoples eye witch is super sensitive

EDTA is considered an organic pollutant. Since it was a very small amount, I wouldn't be too concerned, but it wouldn't hurt to get a polypad or carbon (or both) running just to be safe.

Boric acid can be toxic, but acts by causing severe dehydration, so you should be able to combat that by making sure the fish have plenty of water.....

Oh and you should also deal with the source of the problem. A polypad won't fix this, but grounding the kid until the age of 18 should take care of it.

Winter is a tough time for me. I check the weather every Friday hoping that I'll get a day over 35 degrees so I can brew. When the hose is frozen, it makes brewing incredibly difficult! I'm down to 15 gallons of my beer in the house now, and 5 gallons of guest beer on tap. (Ok, so I have a cellar with the really good stuff, and a 6 pack in the fridge at all times, but still...)

By March I should be back to brewing about 20 gallons a month. Then I'll have some to spare! :lol: Hopefully by the end of the year I'll be brewing 1240 gallons a month... then you can just go to your local pub and order a pint!
