I picked one up recently and wanted to use it on one of my tanks I thought it was very cool because it has a media compartment you can throw carbon or whatever in. My main concern is that the skimmate looks like it will go right into this small chamber in the collection cup where there is a hole for tubing to run I guess to a bucket or some other container. It's kind of stupid considering the skimmer cup is pretty damn big. It looks like it won't even go to the other side of the cup. I have not set this up yet because I haven't got the tubing for it yet but I definitely do not want a disaster happening. If anyone has any insight on this issue I would appreciate it.

The skimmer is finiky...I got 1 on ebay for $15.they do work ok wen set up right. The only piece of tubing I can think of is airline tubing...that's for the venturi it does plug into the collection cup, its" supposed" to keep it from over flowing.

well I'm not taking any chances I was planning on running it into a 5 gallon bucket w/ a clip to hold the tube. Airline tubing is too small lone..I tried that already it needs to be about twice as thick I will be checking home depot this week.

I actually picked this up for a friend who is using a 55 non RR so HOB skimmer is her only option but I wanted to get it functioning and check it out 1st. I ended up getting it in a package deal w/ a bunch of other stuff.

The skimmer is pretty bad, why not try CPR's bakpak 2. They worked pretty well for some of the smaller tanks I have set up for people when I was in high school. I'm not sure how much they cost now, but they use to run for about 60.

nah I know the cprs are decent theres a few decent hob's I have a remora and a marineland on another system just for extra kick. I was just asking about this one because I already have it. I just really liked it had a chamber to run carbon in and it's huge. I mostly want to know how people that used it ran the tubing.

i used to have it on my seahorse tank. the pro worked ok....the regular one sucks big time. like everyone said, there are better options but once you got it tuned in, it work okay. i would definitely use the hole in the collection cup and run a 1/4" line to a one gallon milk container......otherwise the cup could overflow and flood the area.

I had nothing but bad experiences with mine. Lost prime all the time. Overflowed all the time. Loud as heck.

Well after much searching I was able to get some tubing and I will try this sucker out. It will be a few days because I am switching some stuff around. I will update with my progress at the end of the week or maybe next week.
Thanks to all for your input! I still need a 36x18-24 sump and some rock so if anyone has please pm me! I have corals and equipment to trade as well as cash.

I’ve had the pro setup on a 30 gallon tank. Its not the best but worked for me. I never had a overflow or those kind of issues that other people have had. I would set it up and see how it works for you. Just realize its limitations and will pull some stuff out but not a lot. Also from what I remember the hole is on the top of the collection cup and it is Not a drain, its for the venture pump, just double check that.

if it's the pro and not the regular one, i am positive that the hole is on the bottom of the collection cup and it's definitely a drain.... i had a tube (i think it's a 1/4" or a 3/8") run to a one gal. milk container. every week or so i would empty it and clean the cup. i had it on my seahorse tank for like 3 years.
