T5s should be fine for pretty much any corals. I have corals across the spectrum (low end/low maint to high end/ high sensitivity) under my 6-bulb T5 unit.

I keep all sorts of acros, softies and "LPS" in my tank. I have to update my tank thread - perhaps I'll get to that tonight...

we all like high end coral. It becomes not available and only limited are placed out there. Yes it is crazy to pay alot for coral but alot of members on this site still do.

Other members on this site make those high end pices more affordable for "us" to buy

Manny a wise man who I might add posted on this thread told me he would wait till the coral becomes affordable and then buy it. up to 50$ he would spend

anthony, i dont understand the second sentence but as far as the 1st and 3rd i think the problem lies not in high prices but people who will pay high prices just because they are high and not because the coral is anything special to look at. i think of a grey goose analogy: anyone who knows anything about vodka knows it is a huge rip off as far as quality to price ratio but people still like to show off and buy it simply because it is deemed elite and they think it makes the buyer somehow more hip. bringing that superficial mentality to animals is the thing that makes many of us a little sick to our stomach.

if you mean high end=expensive....then here are the most expensive corals i ever paid for.

first a little back ground story.....i had been keeping reef tanks a few years before joining MR....these are the second coral purchase i made through the site. they are from a highly respected member here.

the expensive lessons learned:
never let anyone bag any corals you're buying without inspecting them.... even if there were no parking and you were told to sit in the car while he bags them for you.
and never think that because a high position/status/rating that member appear to posses or imply, that he won't rip you off.

you all (especially the "oldtimers" who have been members since the beginning of time) would be absolutely shocked (as i was) if you knew who this member is. i shall not speak of his name but he knows who he is and what he did. it's a disgrace to this hobby and a disgrace to MR.

we all have paid hundreds or more for those "must have" corals but these are the only corals i ever regret buying.....but at least that incident had taught me some things about a man' s character.

these pics were taken when i got home about 2 hrs. after the purchase.
