Hey everyone. Heading back out to sea after being away for about 12 years. Maintained a 75 long reef employing a Jaubert filter bed system. System ran and thrived for over ten years and then met with catastrophe while away on an extended vacation. Unfortunately what probably added to the demise of the system was a move to a new home just a few weeks prior to the vacation. At that time there really was no means of monitoring remotely. Now with DA's new Net system, hopefully incidence such as what happened before, can me mitigated.

Well this is my equipment and parts list so far. I will be construction the stand, which I think will be somewhat different and unusual. I'll post pics of the build as they occur.

  • CadLights Artisan 50G Rimless
  • CadLights 18G Pro sump
  • Durso drain
  • Bubble Magnus NAC-6
  • CadLights 120w LED fixture
  • Bubble Magnus TO1 dosing pump
  • Ocean Motions Squirt 2way w/bypass
  • Eheim 1260 return pump
  • Tunze 3155 Osmolator Universal ato
  • Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper Lite Plus w/ NET, SL-2 module, ph, temp, salinity and orp probes
  • Azoo titanium heaters 100w x 2
  • 3 acrylic reservoirs for ato and 2 part
  • skimmer collection vessel
Well am I missing anything? This will be coral tank first with minimal fish stock. Mostly lps and sps, tridacnidea and a good cleaner crew. I was considering a CA reactor, but my space constraints are limited to the footprint of the 24x24 tank. Not sure I can fit the reactor with the CO2 tank though I saw a 5g tank somewhere.

I plan on using a dsb in the sump area with some live rubble rock. The tank will have minimal sand cover.

Input is appreciated.

Exciting build, Sounds good

My input:

Not sure about azoo heaters but I always suggest jager's 2x 100 or 2x150 should do

Im also not too sure about the cadlights led unit, they aren't even released yet and I'm not sure how powerful or if they can sustain all corals. Definitely not sure about the clam... something to look into before pulling the plug.

Im not familiar with the oceans motions. Is that for flow? If so there are better options.

Vortech, tunze, and koralias

Hey thanks for the reply. Well the Cadlights unit comes with the package I ordered. I guess I could have gone a different route and maybe that will happen down the road. I check the specs against other units and it seemed to come up to par vs the others, but again only time will tell I guess.

Clams seem to fit well in the environment and reading Calfo's Book f Coral Propagation, he seems to agree. He also feels they are good filter feeders and contribute to good husbandry in reef keeping. I had 3 in my 75 and they grew and thrived for years.

The OM squirt fits inline to the returns and also have a bypass for additional flow. This will give me the oscillation in the current without having to have additional powerheads or impellers in the tank such as the Vortech. Again, things may change based on what I see happening in the tank. I'd like to have as little in the tank in terms of equipment as possible.

The Azoo heaters seemed to have some pretty positive reviews, but I did look at the Eheim heaters. Any heater I use needs to fit well within the glass sump - again for aesthetic reasons. Kind of funny about heaters in this hobby. There have been so many advances in equipment since I last enjoyed this hobby, but there doesn't seem to have been any real, appreciable advances with heaters. Heck maybe I'll work on that :)

Again, thanks for the feedback.
