i'm in the process of upgrading to a 125g from a 75. i filled it up with good ol' tap water. how long should it sit or can it sit before i start moving things over?
u meanin cycling the water? if thats the case then the water so be cycling for (4 Weeks) even more depending if your water if good to throw in some fish
Does this water have salt in it, if so what is the Salinity?
Do you have any power heads in there circulating the water?
Is the water heated?
If it is just plain tap water sitting in an uncovered tank for a week, IMO...I'd throw it out.
The biggest issue is that this is tap water which is the first step in setting yourself up for failure as you WILL have algae issues.
If you want to be successful at this hobby a ro or rodi unit is a necessity.
Ideally one that is at least 4 stages and preferably one that includes a di unit.
Sometimes you can find a used one in our Marketplace, but always best to change out the cartridges so you start off with new ones.
Some folks buy them from sponsors/vendors here like Air Water Ice or BRS but other buy them off Ebay.
You will also need a TDS meter you that you can tell when to change your cartridges.
