Friends and family often come to my place and while here they take the oppotunity to view my tank. Some people know the daily effort I put into it, while others have no clue... Some say "cute fish", others say "nice corals", "wow", etc... And although I get some very positive comments on my tank the reality is that I really could care less what anyone, aside from myself, thinks of it.. I don't put the effort into it to show it off (which is probably why I've never posted a picture of it anywhere), I put the effort into it because it provides me pleasure to be able to create this little world... So I got to thinking (probably because of my excessive consumption of Grand Marnier tonight), what does my tank really mean to me?.. The conclusion I came to is that when I look at my tank not only do I appreciate the awesome little world I've created and the incredible effort that I (as I'm sure most of us do) put into it to create such an ideal environment for my little buddies, but I also view each individual fish and each individual coral and I think of all the time and effort I went through to obtain each little part of this incredible world. I think of all the amazing people I've met, the distances I've traveled to meet them and the hours of conversation I've had with everyone I've met. I think of everything I've learned in this hobby and how cautious I've been to try to do things right and how I yet still managed to f* things up every now and again. I think of how I've slowly learned the art of patience (at least with my tank) and of the joy that I get from watching all of the different personalities in my tank develop and how incredibly funny some of these little guys can be. I think of the responsibility I have to my little buddies and to the little world I've created. But, most importantly everyday when I look at my tank(s) I think of what I could organize better, what I can get and how I can make the environment better for all my little buddies who's lives depend on me... And to think, I got into this hobby because of a little green spotted puffer who seduced me into buying her at the local pet shop... I often wonder how different the past three years would have been if I didn't spot her going up and down the side of the store fish tank staring at me... lol - What does your tank mean to you?

That is a well thought out ideal.........

However, judging from the hour of posting, I believe you should put the bottle down and get some sleep.... :lol_large:biglaugh:

grand marnier, great choice lol. i agree with alex, very well thought out. for me my tanks are an opportunity to get a view and insight into a world that many people know almost nothing about. it is my creative outlet and allows me to create something that i consider to be beautiful, and in appreciating the beauty of what i create it gives me a great appreciation for the ocean and similar ecosystems. im a conservationist at heart and knowing that most if not all of the corals i have are aquacultured really adds a whole new ethical element to it. this current tank that i have up means quite a bit though. as you can see my username is bryce and mandy. this is bryce, mandys my girlfriend. i got her into the hobby, rather reluctantly on her end, and now ive created a monster lol. so the tank is a little more than just an understocked 57g reef lol
