Hi All,

Let me just start off with Hi :) . I currently go to school at UCLA Cali, but am moving to Upper West side Manhattan in 3 weeks permanently :) . So I am a member with Southern Cal Reef Central forum and some other reefing forums, and decided to get a account here, I see there are still people who share my interests in my new home. BTW I have an established 10G nano reef tank waiting for me in New York, got a 24G Biocube here that I am handing over to my friend. So I have a question regarding the 10G tank (which another friend of mine was looking after).

So my friend who is taking care of the 10G noticed that the peppermint shrimp is picking at all sorts of corals in the tank and overall he is just being kind of a bully and bugger.

I am thinking of removing him. And right now we are in the mindset of acquiring a final fish, a YWG. After doing some reading about the YWG - Pistol Shrimp symbiotic relationship I was thinking of replacing the peppermint for the pistol. All I want to know is, is he going to be the same kind of bugger as peppermint? Annoying tank residents including teaming up with crabs and abusing my snails? Or is he gonna be able to control is emotions and maybe do some good for the tank such as clean-up?

And another thing, there are lots of reefing stores in NY right? Theres gotta be.

-Thanks

My pistol shrimp was a pita because he would steal corals and take them into his rocks. He moved around my frags all the time. I just got rid of him in the end. If i was planning on keeping less coral or a rack in a smaller tank, Id consider another,.

im pretty sure my acans are being picked on by my peppermint shrimp, from my experience with the little PITA id say avoid them, pistols are cool but like he said they steal corals and hunt other species of shrimp....ive also seen them cause immense landslides in the tank if your rock isnt epoxied or built off the bottom glass..good luck and welcome!

Camel's eat corals not Pep's no? I could see them eating the dead skin from a zoo though, but never the whole coral.

ive heard from a lot of reputable individuals who've actually seen it. now i was indeed a skeptic as well until i began witnessing it myself. it became so well conditioned to scouring the acans for food when i fed that it compulsively did it. thus earning itself a spot in the fuge....when i can catch it
