it isnt getting the salinity that is the problem. a little more here of part a and a little more there of part b and the other componets are way out of whack. loved the salt myself, but is more work then i wanted to do to make a salt mix,

I hear ya, Rick. I wouldn't mind going back to D-D... but I'm 400g committed to ESV, perhaps when I'm running low, I'll reconsider.

It could be a problem to correctly measure the amount of each component if you're changing non-standard amount of water, fe 4.7gal. For multiplications of 2.5g I find it easy to measure using the supplied measuring cups. What I did is I used a gallon container with clearly marked one gallon level on it and poured five gallon of water into a 5 gal bucket. I marked the level inside the bucket with nail polish, emptied the bucket and again poured 2.5gal of water and marked. This way I simply fill the 5 gal bucket to the marked line, clean all the necessary equipment, empty the bucket and fill it up with the remaining 2.5gal. Then I have a 10g rubbermaid container with 7.5 gal of new water and pour that back into tank. Works for me:) Hope that helps

seeing there isnt .1 .2 .3 and so forth marks on the cups you dont know for sure you are dosing the exact amount, i did really like the salt, but my non checking and that looks pretty close had my cal at 500, alk was fine and mag over 1500, so i went back to good ole faithful salt, granted when i get a bucket of salt i pull the bag out and mix it all around really well in case any other parts settled more towards the bottom

Charlie stick to what you using, like you said before your tank is working great so why change!!!!!! You mostly have softies in your tank anyway and to spend more $$$$ when its working for you why change!!!
I use the cheapest salt(coalife) in my 450gal and everyone says it looks great and all coral seam happy so why would i spend double on a salt just because everyone says its the best??

CORALLIFE = $35 A BUCKET
IO= 45 A BUCKET
REEF CYRSTAL=55 A BUCKET
ESV $68 A BOX
