This large Hammer Coral (8 in.) has been in this reef tank 12 months (125 g w/ 80 g sump), slowly growing with no problems till 4 days ago, started receding on right side. Recession is now close to 40%. White film/growth noted at margin of recession, which I have now vacuumed away twice. water parameters are good, all other coral and live stock are fine.

The only possible clue that I can offer is that 8 days ago I feed it a small piece of sushi (please don't critique that, :iamwithstI realize now that it may have been a critical mistake... but I have done that about once a month for a year without any issues, however I fear this time it may have inoculated bacteria)

This was/is a beautiful specimen, and I don't know what it is or how to eradicate the problems. :help:
(As a last ditch salvage effort, is there a chance of dividing the apparently uninvolved portion off, or will that definitely fail.)

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRETIATED.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
:fish::thanks:

that doesn't look good. wall type euphyllia are less likely to survive the brown jelly infection. if you have other euphyllia's, take this piece out or others may get infected.
you can try to treat it in a separate hospital tank....siphon off the jelly, lugol bath, good flow, daily water change and hope for the best. gl.
