He has been living & growing inside of the rock...hiding. It's a bristle worm, they are great detritus eaters. If you overfeed your tank, you may end up with a lot of them (not necessarily good), you want to aim for some :)

Do NOT touch it, and do be sure to wear gloves when you handle any of your rock. They will leave those bristles wherever they touch you and trust me, they hurt!

..def a good guy though :)

i wouldnt say they are bad by any means, but their are mixed opinions on them. I know a lot of people who hate them including myself, and tear them out of the tank any chance we get.

These are some good links for you to look through, some have identification of many animals/creatures from the sea, some offer quality advice. Take a look, and try to answer your own questions before asking others to answer for you.

I would bet there is a thread containing many quality links for all types of issues, I think Deanos did something along those lines....do a search

Rookie - we are here to help answer questions for folks:) While we can't answer every question and do want new folks to do a bunch of reading to familiarize themselves with the hobby, there are 6,000 different marine worms, so posting a question like this is the way to go!

We do have an Identification Forum for a reason ;)

I was not trying to be mean. It must have come out the wrong way.

I was just trying to help him become more informed.

Sorry if I offended/alienated anyone

I knew that had to be the case Phil, you've always been a great guy for answering questions -- just didn't want to scare away anyone new who might be asking a question ;)
