I was talking to some friends the other day and one of them quoated some disturbingly high numbers for survival rates of yellow tangs coming into the hobby. Is there anywhere I can get those numbers? At lease the amount and maybe the survival rates? Any help will be appreciated

Thank you,

The only way to come up with those numbers, would be to divide the number of yellow tangs imported each year by the number of salt water hobbyists...then if that number equals ten,Ten yellow tang sold for each tank, wewould know somthing is wrong.... and we all know that every tank does not have ten yellow tangs in it........! There are numbers out there on the number of certain fish imported, but these numbers are never backedup by any formula or how they came up with the figures. so who knows? I heard not too long ago by a polling group, that there seems to be 13 million fish tanks in the US. Thats ALL tanks, from Beta bowls to Mr 4000. so if that number is somehow correct.....that would be about 1 million salt tanks if the percentage is 10% Marine tanks?

A large number of yellow tangs available today are routed through Hawaii. A distributor from that area may be able to help you find that information.
