Private quote or public quote?

Both. It should be on the video tape of the MAC session.

I have to say that I was quite disappointed with the turnout for the MAC session. I think it was the lowest turnout for any session at any conference I have ever attended.

Regards.

Who all is present from the MAC camp? If David is there, I would assume Sylvia probably is too. Anyone else?

David only. We did hang around a lot with John Brandt and Steve Robinson.

Hello people,
There is too much to say but that quote says it all for me. Contrition and being big enough to admit mistakes, [ let alone massive amounts of them] in public on tape lowers the shields and makes it possible to forge consensus thru reason and dialogue.
I accept this offering with eyes and mind open and look forward to weekly progress in the drive to reform field efforts... which then enable the rest to go forth.
I have 22 years of pent up frustration to release into a nationwide training program that will be accompanied by monitoring, management plans, CDTS and yes certifications.
Working on the inside constructively is exactly what I want to do. I have absolutely no need to vent into a computer for the next couple of years IF allowed to get quickly to the point and do the work.
The only thing worse then 22 years of not solving this problem is 23 years of not solving it.
Critics, reformers, importers and all marinelife dealers need to get wet and contribute and make this cancer on our trade disappear. Take part in it, lead it...follow it or get out of the way.
MAC has lowered their sword and I will do the same now as an eye for an eye will eventually blind us all.
Fear not you fellow critics out there for I am a critic as well. We need however to be driven by argument and reason .. and not by genetics and hatred.
If this however is a ploy to disarm us and lure us inside as some of you are thinking right now, don't worry. What better place to burn down a house than from the inside?
The CORL/MAC 1,000 man net training proposal is on the table
now and the time of making massive mistakes must come to an end.
Sincerely, Steve Robinson

Steve, Spoken like a true poet!
I appreciate that you are willing to give MAC and chance.
David, thank you for having the courage to admit to mistakes and offering to include critics in your fold.
Get your nets wet. :D

From what I've learned about CORL it's a more far-reaching program. To my mind it's also far more humanitarian in its goals, and it seems to me that, as Ferdinand had pointed out, there are issues of basic survival for residents of these areas which the CORL program may be more effective in addressing.

For my part, I'm choosing (also because of finances, truthfully) to not contribute to depletion, just as I stay out of Yellowstone and Yosemite so as not to add to vast numbers of humans in what should be pristine natural areas.

In any event, it seems to me that cooperation, especially if the push comes from inside an organization, is the best method, so I'm glad to see at least one person ready to "lay down his sword".

Any other takers? Mary?
Was it Shakespeare who said "I will lay me down and rest awhile and than something about bringing out the sword if and when needed.
(the words after the second 'and'........... are mine 8) )

Great advise seamaiden

Once I actually see progress that consists of something other than paper shuffling and words, then I'll believe. Sorry guys, but I've been dealing with MAC for over 3 years. I've heard lots of words and seen little action. Lots of promises, rarely any follow through. Give me the follow through, and then I'll let up on this particular issue. Unfortunately, there are still 100 other issues to address, but one at a time... One thing I know for certain- if it wasn't for the pressure put upon MAC via this forum and personal communications between a scant few people, this new MAC attitude would not have come about. Makes me tend to think that keeping pressure applied is the only way to make things happen with them.
