MAC says they are intent on working on the collection/training side of things.

Is there a training team in place? If so, who are they and what are their qualifications? If not, when is a team going to be in place?

Does MAC currently have the proper netting material to distribute collectors? If so, how is it being distributed? (Given away, sold, etc...). If not, is this a goal of MAC? What is being done to procure the proper materials?
TIA,
David

I'm not MAC croaker9, I'm not MAC. What I mean is that I am not a MAC staff member. I am on the board of directors, I'm a supporter and I help them out when I can.

John said,
'I am not MAC." now I'm really confused. John is the only guy in the inner circle that is in the aquarium trade...ie. who knows a fish from a chicken.
John has counseled and led them back to respectabilityalmost singlehandedly. Now he is no longer to be listened to vis a vis MAC information.
Diplomatic, fall on thy sword semantics, sure...but John is MAC.
Steve ... ....."no I'm not!"

Personalities on the board burnt me to a crisp. Representing MAC in this forum is a losing battle.

It was once thought that my presence here would educate folks on MAC. But personalities here have prevented that. It's a shame really.

Personalities? 8O Takes two to tango... (or even more to line dance!) I understand your frustration - but that doesn't make it OK to go off on somebody. Facts are facts. They have no emotion.

How have personalities prevented you from educating folks about MAC?

We ask questions, we don't get answers. We point out flaws, we get slammed. We ask more questions and are told in no uncertain terms that we will not receive answers. We are all thirsty for knowledge, but the "education" needs to have backbone, substance, validity. Instead we've been ignored, and when we do get answers they are full of double talk.

Yes, representing MAC here might be a losing battle, but it's not because of me or anyone else on this forum, it's because of MAC itself. When the issues are addressed and the problems fixed - REALLY fixed, I'm sure MAC will have tons of support. If the problems are not dealt with, whether our questions are answered or not, MAC sets itself up to fail.

Until that time comes, if it does, when MAC actually acts on the issues to resolve them, rather than publising contingency plan after contingency plan, you're definitely swimming upstream.

Again, it's not personal - but for me it's business. MY business.

Ladies Gentleman forget the personalities. Is this not the real question?

Let me try and explain why I asked Mary's question again.I am not to good at typing emotions or my feelings so to speak,I normally like a face to face talk it seems to work better for me.
I have a reef for a hobby...actually nothing more or nothing less.I did not know a damn thing about "juicing fish" or using nets to catch them.I simply went to the lfs and got what I wanted,no reguards to how it was caught or what happened to the reefs from where it was caught, and to be honest it did'nt matter to me at the time..until I found this forum!
As i read this forum I do see that most want the same things.Less damage to the reefs and to stop juicing the fish. Please excuse my simple way of explaining things,it is the best I can do sometimes.
People are very passionate about things that affect them or the things they truly care about, and that I applaude(sp?).But why do you all fight each other over things you have so much PASSION for? And it seems to be all are trying to reach the same goals,or are you?
I actually have much to say to about this......but the personal attacks and putting people on the blacklist, does'nt help anyone.......think about it!

There is no greater lesson I'd love for this forum to learn then this. And like Jenn said, it's not unilateral problem either. There is more then one person contributing to stagnation of progress towards a common goal.

Your beloved "government".... :D

I'm helping myself - and in doing so I'm helping hobbyists and ethical wholesalers. I think if more did the same, it would rub off... but I've been saying that all along.

Who have you helped today? :D

David,

Thank you for caring about the answers to these important questions. All of this "personality conflict" baloney only serves to distract readers from the seriousness of the questions, and more importantly the answers. I hope you will take the initiative to email the questions to MAC (via the link John provided). Please let us know if you do, and if you receive an answer.

Mary,
I did e-mail MAC those questions and I will post it here when I get a answer. I have a few questions I think might be better answered in a pm between us if that is ok with you.

Net-caught fisherman collective supported by forward-thinking businesses that actually support them?

Mike,

That sounds like socialism to me! We all know how well that works as a business model. Especially in the P.I.

Cheers

Unbridaled capitalism has *never* been shown to support much 'environmentalism' either... The PI economy looks more like the 1840's robber baron timeframe in the US than it does our modern economy, where companies at least recognize that 'environmentalism' is a good advertising slogan...

It's funny though... The collectors whom are actually now participating in this working collective are getting more money for their fish. If this is socialism, it seems to be working for them. I know Roger from Palauig has a new roof on his house, and other collectors there have 'upgraded' from nipa huts to cement block homes. Hunger is no longer a problem. So, from my perspective, they are doing just fine.

Perhaps you would prefer that I use the words 'loosely formed union' rather than 'collective'? Or are unions still a dirty word now? Personally, I am glad we have unions: Without them, we wouldn't be looking forward to this weekend. Or any weekend, for that matter...

Regards.
