Well thank you Jaime. MAC is often very creative and resourceful for its public relations. This particular outreach turned a potential negative atmosphere into one with a clear sense of a positive mission.

John I didn't see anyone handing out the MAC magnets at the theater last night. I guess we're on our own here in Bowling Green.

Mitch, how are sales coming along at your "Nemo Needs You" clownfish blowout event?

Great, but I'm running out of room. You need any?

Mitch, you are a marketing genius.

When they grow out of Nemo you can move them up to a nice community tank like this one.

John
Is it too late to distribute these to all the movie theatres?
Save one for me

Dear all

If I may bring a little perspective here.

Many moons ago I worked for a small local marine conservation organization here in Hong Kong. 'Flipper' was the movie at the time, and we were offered the Asian premier release, which of course we accepted and used as a fund-raiser, both in the run up to the event, and the event itself. This allowed us to raise awareness of marine conservation issues in the community, and important funds to continue our conservation work.

That is all MAC has done here, and very well. For all those that are bitter that it wasn't their organization or projects that got it, ask yourself why not instead of just flaming MAC here.

Aesop must have been right, the grapes were probably sour.......

Frazer,

Not everyone is flaming MAC.
Actually, it is one of the first things they have done that I have wholeheartedly supported.
It's called 'damage control', and this is not a bad thing.

Certainly, MAC could do better in certain things, such as talking about the lack of certified blue tangs, or highlighting the fact that many clownfish are now tank-raised.

I do wonder why they haven't certified tank-raised breeding operations.
But that is a question, not a flame...

Regards.

Hi Mike

I appreciate not everyone is flaming MAC, and there are other issues people have with them, but it appears that some can't even say "well done" for this effort, but are letting past performances get in their way.

I for one say "well done" for such a coup.

Now go get Abba.

Why Abba, John?

Heck, I bet enough people might pay NOT to hear Abba...

Do you have to be a certified store to get some magnets, or a couple hundred fliers?

Whether the horse or cart is first, the fliers and magnets have been made, and should be utilized if there are more to spare.

I would like some to hand out to new interested customers.

Peace,

Chip

Thanks Mitch, I did read all the posts in the thread. Some are supportive and some are not, and they are in plain English for all to see.

I think the issue here is the reef, which we are all concerned about, and how to see it in as good condition as we can, whilst maintaining people's livelihoods, whether they be fishers, retailers, or anyone in-between.

Wouldn't it be nice to think that one day, the world will be well again, and NGOs won't be needed? Ultimately, that is the aim of conservation NGOs. Can't see it happening though, so let's get on with it and do what little we all can.

End of sermon.

I went to see Finding Nemo tonight and it makes a pretty strong anti-aquarium statement. MAC really is taking up for responsible aquarium keeping and maybe people are being a bit too harsh on this issue. John what size is the sticker? I see good old Charles must have taken the photo. IMO the movie will not make kids want to keep little Nemos and Dorys.

Mitch,

The magnets are about 3.50 x 4.25 inches. I'm not sure about MAC sticker sizes. This design is only on a magnet; both sides.
