John,
There are a couple of things about Nemo that need to be brought to MAC's attention ASAP. At the end of the Nemo movie it shows fish from different oceans all escaping into Sidney Harbor. I'm afraid kids will interpret this as being ok to release non-native fish into our waters. The movie also tells kids that all drains, including toilets lead back to the ocean and I am afraid kids will be catching daddy's fish and flushing him down the toilet thinking they are sending them home. 8O MAC needs to make sure kids know it is better to kill unwanted fish than to release them back into the wild.

Mitch you are just so darn observant! MAC knew of these blunders beforehand. I couldn't figure out a good way of putting the idea of not giving your fishies a flushie on that magnet. Give kids a chance to grow up themselves Mitch. Let them interact with the world too, would ya?

Through MASNA I regularly advise marine aquarium clubs in coastal areas to warn their members not to release and live animals into the wild.

Bunch of us from the store saw it tonight and as I was thinking about the movie on the way home, a small pang of horror hit me as I realized this movie basically endorsed release of non-natives into habitats. We all know the problem of Indo pacific fish apparently taking up residence in the tropical Atlantic after being "set free". We partcipate in a group based outa MIT SeaGrant that studies marine invasives and I know this will give them a coniption LOL

However the most glaring error I saw was that Coral and Marlin were the same size, Coral should have been much larger though I'm guessing Pixar was somewhat worried about objections from NOW and other women's organizations LOL

LOL You guys are getting too worked up. Since most tropical species won't live in 2/3rds of the countrie's beaches I don't think we have much to worry about. Secondly this isn't the first time for this type of thing... remember in Deuce Bigalow when he threw the puffer into the ocean. I dont' think we saw a rash of people throwing their fish into the ocean to set them free.

It's a movie let's enjoy it. Watching a movie does not equate to imitating behavior if that was true everyone would be wearing black like Neo.

I have another blunder. If Marlin and Coral are from the Great Barrier Reef, why do they not speak with an Australian accent like all the other fish I've received from Australia?

Tom,
I guess someone forgot to tell my proven pair of true perculas the size news. Which fish in the attached picture is the female? This pair has spawned 28 times and we have reared 100s of babies. You must be thinking about maroons.

Well actually every breeding pair of clowns I've had, Tomato Complex, Percula complex or Maroons have had a size differential, however I'd suspect you just have a particularly overtly vain female clown who works extra hard at keeping the weight off =)

I've seen some wild pairs of true percs that were the same size, but on ours the female is alot bigger.

How's the color & striping on your offspring mitch? Any photos?

Jeremy,
Have a lookat the attached photos. Most of these babies are around 5-6 months old and 1-1.25" or so. The color is great and they eat anything with gusto. We probably aren't achieving maximum growth rate, but they are very healthy. There are a lot of mis-marks, but some of that may change as they grow older. How are yours doing?
Mitch
PS I have awsome black ocellaris babies too. I should also add that my wife is the primary caregiver.

Lookin' good!

The ones we have are doing well, but we don't have alot yet.. keep having batches of eggs that don't make it out of the membrane at hatch time.. really giving me fits.

have you tried lowering the alk level slightly?

in f/w roe, hardness levels have a direct bearing on membrane hardening,
may be worth looking into
