Folks,
Are there more graphs and species to see?More variety representative of the trades livestock?
5 out of 6 of the species surveys reflect a logical 2-3% average mortality except for the ubiquitous chelmon which only hit 60% in the abberant case. If you throw out your 2 highs and two lows you get a more reasonable picture. An absurdly and non representative high incident is not the norm clearly.
This is the sort of figure we expect outsiders "cough...LA Times...cough" to latch onto and falsely purport it to be the norm . According to what we can see here, it is no such thing.
Chelmons have a unique story to be told and are not representative of many species. I'll tell it if there is interest.
Sincerely, Steve

Frank............these numbers seem quite true {even by todays standards} Perhaps it was not your survey that was way off................I think it may have been your use of decimal point.............60% was to read 6%

Right Kalk,
The decimal is in fact misplaced. Seriously, the difference between the unrepresentative high end and the norm is a factor of times ten.
You are correct and it went unnoticed.

How can the errant extreme be mistaken foe an average? In fact, if the average were actually 60% that would mean that there were many mortalities in the 90 percentiles...enough to pull the low end up to 60%.
Lallo did not misinterpret his data...others did. In fact, Frank posted it right here for you to see whats going on and think for yourself...
6% average on many species...not that bad actually.

Frank,

Is this all the data, or is there more to be posted?

Might you have an off-hand estimate of the number of species you *have* data for? This would give us a clue as to how long it will take you post all of the data... Just curious.

Regards.

...and the 6 % average continues.
Gee how can a good survey reflect what we all knew all along.
There are things to fix... but if it were really 60% average mortality, there would be no discussion since all of us would already be out of business, duh....

Mike asked how long it will be for Frank to post all of the data. Well, lets see. There were 276 stores. Each reported on at least 25 shipments. The number of species per shipment varied. If the number of species on average was 50 the number of lines of data would be about 276 X 25 X 50. As far as the mortality, Frank has only presented the DOA. He also needs to present the DAA then the DOA+DAA figures. It could take a while.
