Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade - Pacific Regional Program Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Establish Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade Program presence and Marine Aquarium Council (MAC credibility as an international certification development and standards-setting organization in the Pacific region.
* Expand MAC capacity to develop its Pacific Island network and conduct consultations with stakeholders in the Pacific region.
* Expand, strengthen, and increase industry and stakeholder support for the Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade Pacific program and MAC Certification.
* Improve understanding of marine aquarium industry and MAC Certification among stakeholders, general public and the media in the Pacific region.
* Increase stakeholder interest and involvement in MAC network and MAC programming in certification and resource management training, extension and monitoring.
* Overall responsibility for the development of appropriate training, awareness and other materials directed at regional, national and community stakeholders ensuring appropriate media, language and content for the socio cultural situations.
* Develop and coordinate Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade Pacific network and office for MAC Certification development and implementation in the Pacific region.
* Increase awareness, recognition and acceptance by government, industry, non-government organizations and public in the Pacific region of MAC Certification and the conservation and development mission of MAC.
* Help develop appropriate Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade Pacific Program monitoring indicators and monitor progress against these.
* Manage the development and implementation of Collection Area Management Plans (CAMP).
* Act as primary liaison with industry, Government, non-government organizations and other stakeholders such as tourism, and liaise and network with relevant international and regional institutions such as the Forum Secretariat, SOPAC, SPREP, SPC.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Masters or higher degree in Marine biology, fisheries management or relevant subject
* At least five years relevant experience in several countries of the Pacific and with regional or international organizations, with NGO experience a plus.
* Fluency in a Pacific language an advantage.
* Proven ability and experience in a developing Island States
* An understanding of, and experience in, sustainable development and conservation, as well as business and industry in the South Pacific Region, preferably in relation to marine resources.
* Ability to develop a multi-stakeholder network and organise and facilitate multi-stakeholder meetings and consultations.
* High level of organisational, project management and leadership skills.
* Understanding of the marine ornamentals industry issues and practices, based on experience working closely with the industry, and of certification and labeling preferred.
* Experience in training and capacity building of individuals, communities and institutions
* Program management and networking/coordination experience.
* Self-motivated and proven ability to work without direct supervision.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, and research and report writing experience.
* Computer literate (word processing and international electronic communications).
