regardless of what i think of mac, or what they think of me, it seems as if they've decided that their participation here is not worthwhile, for whatever reason...

i'm curious why you think it's so important to have them participate here, if they, evidently, don't

(and no, this isn't an 'attack' of any sort, it's a genuine question)

what, in your opinion, would be gained by having mac active here (for all involved)? (assuming no bashing  )

imo, there are 2 ways it could play out.....

mac does address the issues here sincerely, in honest dialogue, thereby shutting alot of us up, mebbe...

mac doesn't address issues other than in the same ol ways, and they get 'bashed' once again....

not the end of the world, even w/option #2 :)

your thoughts would be appreciated

Vitz,
You're right!
Option "B" is risked by every proponent of an issue every day and everywhere in America.
Its also risked by every candidate that ever opens his mouth in public.
To not do so, insures the loss of the election.

But lets not lose the moment when Rover concluded that the cart should not be put before the horse on the field issue. We have proposed and lost that argument [ before MAC anyway ] for two years now. But now they've had a fair chance to see how far they could get by NOT following this reasoning. So guys, how'd it go?
Perhaps put in different ways... by different people... the wisdom of putting the field first in order to feed the chain of custody subsequently can finally break thru. Perhaps Rover is on to something here.

The reason I started this thread was that over the last couple of weeks I had been seeing requests here such as "It sure would be nice if MAC had a representative here." and "Wasn't there someone from MAC who posted here?" and even "MAC had a representative here for a while, but he 'couldn't hack it.'"

So my personal feeling is that it would be nice to have someone from MAC who would stop by from time to time both to answer questions, and better yet, to ask them. They can learn a lot here I think.

But that's only given the atmosphere here changes. I don't think that with the current tone of the forum MAC would EVER consider participating here. Like I said further up, I think they have written this forum off - because they could post here 40 hrs a week and not make any progress.

I think that's because of the nature of the internet - and it may be impossible to change. I look at this bulletin board like a newspaper that's published by reefs.org - however, you the writers can say just about anything. All of the editors on staff can't do a thing to check facts (not our area), verify stories, or even edit for tone. The writers of the paper can say just about anything - even use the paper for their own agenda (and we know that never happens w/ a newspaper :)

So I suggested some guidelines that would be written by the membership, and enforced by the membership and the moderators here - in the hopes that the tone will change, and more groups will participate.

Cheers
James

is the industry forum the only place mac can post on, on rdo?

i would think that it would also be possible (if one wants to be 'fair and balanced', like the press, ) , to give the mac a forum of their own, even if strictly for the purpose of getting their annou
ncements/info/updates to the entire audience of rdo

it's not as if the 'hostility' runs 'across the board'

do you think mac would be amicable to such a thing?

James,
You wrote you thought they would not appear before us "Until the atmoshere here changes"...
I'm puzzled...you mean the atmosphere could change all by itself with no dialogue, no 'give and take' and no normal discourse?
By molly-coddling them you make them look delicate, over sensitive and childish.
Or...perhaps there is another explanation. Outsiders can never come into a den of true believers and experienced people and hope to tell them how to do things...and how their future should be with minimal knowledge.
If so James. Let me come to your jobplace and tell you guys out there how things should be done differently. My credentials? Never mind that. Since when do they matter? Just assure me that your fellow engineers will play nice and treat me like a lady.
Yeah...its a lot like that.

Hi Steve,
Just for the record, Those of us "ladies" who post on here, can give every bit back, what we get. Treated like a lady?? Hmmmm, thems fightin' words-LOL !!

James,
The atmosphere here among those of us who are "believers" and want some answers, will NEVER change, when we are greeted with only SILENCE from MAC.
Or when the only MAC "rep" ever speaking up on this forum, slammed some of us personally.

Spewing hype to hobbyists who do not know what goes on behind the industry, may create followers, but, it is we dealers who walk the walk, who should be convinced to follow MAC. Don't you think ???

After all, it does no good to have droves of newbies wanting MAC animals, when we dealers dont have them and some of us are so p*ssed off at the falsehoods, that we will do everything possible to find our own CLEAN resources, that do NOT include anything to do with MAC !!!

Personally, at this point, I do not trust MAC about much of anything. so when are they going to convince me that they are on the right road here ??? Well, silence won't, but true and honest FACTS, might !!!!
If MAC wants us to follow them, they had better give us some VERY good reasons !!!!

You can lead a horse to water, James, but you cannot make it drink. Perhaps you've missed the message, but several here have offered their experience and expertise to MAC over the years, and it's been declined in some form or other.

It is my opinion that you are beating around the bush asking people to treat a would-be MAC rep differently than we would any other poster. Why is that? Are they special? Are they fragile? Do different rules apply to them, than apply to Joe Schmoe?

I asked the same hard questions over the phone on that call with David V. He admitted he didn't have answers for me for some, he answered what he could. I don't see any reason for *me* to behave any differently than I do now. If I see misinformation posted in any thread, I politely point out incongruencies and I'm not afraid to ask questions.

I'll behave like a lady and I'll treat 'em like a lady.

I guess MAC will never return a presence here publically, because IMO nobody here should try to be somebody they aren't, just to kiss up.

Perhaps .....but lets pretend I am the representative for a moment..........Lets say that every thing you all on this board have pointed out is true: Many of the areas now certified are less then up to par.........In fact there are no areas in all of PI which can be certified as sustainable within the guide lines set forth ........Sorry, but we over estimated how difficult and degraded the reefs are ..{keep in mind that this admission also points to the fact that every fish collected from PI is unsustainable! so any other group of collectors/Exporters claiming sustainable fish collection .....is being less then honest..... .....Furthermore the rampant use of cyanide by the food fish industry has made it impossible to extract 100 percent untainted fish from the same waters seafood industry persons collect. There for we have decided to withdraw from the Philippines and begin work in a more unsullied environment. The islands of Fiji promise to fulfill all our dreams in the way of reef friendly collection and hobby exculpation to boot!...........We hope all those whom supported us in the past , will continue to in our new activities in Fiji!
