I thought some of you might be interested to know about this. My dad just came back from a business/dive trip to the south pacific. One of the places he stayed was on the island of Kosrae in Micronesia. They have a giant clam hatchery solely dedicated to raising clams and releasing them back into the wild. I thought this was wonderful and I am glad that these countries are realizing they need to protect their resources and are taking action. I got a clam shell with a certificate of authenticity showing the shell was not wild caught. It also states that they culture several hundred thousand clams each year, and the program is dedicated to enhance the clam populations around the islands. I was impressed with their intentions to release the clams back into the wild instead of selling them for profit, and also the fact that they sell their shells with proof that they were not wild caught. I just thought I'd share this with you all.
