Nobody tries to sneak in four extra boxes of liverock.....Knowing the fine is a thousand bucks ......you cant hide the weight its on the airfreight bill ..... when you deal with third worldcountries there are bound to be a certain amount of mishaps.......l

Since the Asian clams supply has been cleaned out in most localities its the Pacific Islanders that eat the majority now.
For thousands of years clams served a wonderful purpose...to feed people rather easily. They still do.
A few decades ago....an aquarium trade "discovered" em.
Clams are eaten regularly all over the pacific by every island nation. Collectively they most probably add up to thousands a day.
On a single day of fish collecting in Tonga, fellow divers ate about 50 for lunch sprinkled w/ lemon juice.
Giant clams were 'invented' for food.
A tiny, secondary use has been for the aquarium trade.

Well, lets look at Los Angeles and Orange County. There are well over 1,000 sushi bars. If each carves only one clam a day, there's a thousand of your 10,000 right there. Then we can look at San Diego, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Dallas, etc. We might get close to 10,000 before we even left the US. Yeah, I'd say 10,000 is an extremely conservative number for the entire world :wink:
BTW, I eat sushi 2-3 times a week, and I've never been in a sushi bar that didn't serve clam. Personally, I think they rather flavorless, like octopuss but less chewy.

Ouch!........ Yes, but at least Im not sophomoric. People that think aquarium removal of clams . corals or fish is affecting the health of the reefs...........Need to be exposed to the truth. I am the only person in this intire industry that sees to it that reader hears all side to the issue.
