I just heard some disturbing news. Another store here in the area called me and said ORA was destroyed in the huricane. I tried calling them but couldn't get through. Has anyone heard anything from them?

Man, I hope everything's okay down there. This would be a huge loss for the industry...

Peace,

Chip

Hints and rumor mills seem to indicate that they are fine and will be shipping within a few days.

Cell phone service and likely ground lines will be out for some time though.

Thank God!

Why?

For what, allowing destruction of the air, land, water and humanity? Ah, but it(god) did spare ORA.

Then you should thank god for the 20+ dead people the hurricane left in its wake. Tell the families of the dead that god did it.

So did ANY ORA person show up to the confernce or were they taking care of what happened to them from the hurricane(s)? Anyone catch Dustins talk ;) FWIW, rumor mills can be wrong, and are worse then puppy mills.

Oh, and
MORE :)

I can only imagine what a hurricane can do, never seen the desruction first hand. I'm sure theres tons of clean up, but was there any loss of boodstock, curently available fish/inverts or larval?

Gresham:

From what I've been told by Kevin and Dustin of ORA, they have a pretty good system for taking securing broodstock in the event of disasters like this. I don't know the details however.

Unfortunately, I am sure they had to "put to sleep" many offspring to ensure that they didn't get into local waters when the storm hit.

This went out last week by email and fax to ORA clients, of which I am one:

ORA REBUILDS AFTER
HURRICANE FRANCES

To All of Our Friends and Customers:

On September 4-5 ORA received a direct hit from Hurricane Frances. Although
we did sustain some damage to our hatcheries, most of our inventory and all
of our broodstock have survived. We are working hard this week to clean up
and stabilize our systems after the storm. We have made tremendous progress
and the fish are doing well.

To summarize some of the damage: we lost the plastic covering on one
of our oldest hatcheries, the pipe that supplies our saltwater was washed
away and power outages affected several areas. Water is now restored to all
systems. Some of the hardest hit areas were the Coral, Conch and Algae
hatcheries. Conch inventories are available at this time, but it will be a
while before we will be able to offer the high quality coral frags and algae
that you have come to expect from ORA.

We are totally committed to restoring all of our facilities to our pre-storm
level. Beyond that, we are continuing to build the new hatcheries that we
planned before the storm. In short, ORA will soon be back bigger and better
than ever.

We thank all of you that called to inquire how we fared and
apologize to those who tried to contact us while our phones, email, and
faxes were down. Like many of our fellow Floridians, we are finding that the
aftermath of one of these storms is just as difficult to deal with as the
storm itself.

We will be fully operational and back to a regular shipping schedule
next week ... as long as the next storm (Hurricane Jeanne) misses us. We
have included a current availability list and we welcome your calls and
orders.

Thanks for all of your support and concern,

The ORA Aquaculture Team
