Hi Peter,
Two Italians = Gaius Julius & Pompeia
Bald Filipino = Ferdinand Cruz
Floridian Researcher = Peter Rubec
David Beckham = former star of Man U, now struggling at Real Madrid
Muluk al tawa'if = the confederate kings of Muslim Spain, in the final decades of the Reconquista
All the allusions were to be used merely as setup to the debate topic:
Spera Maculata : Our fondest hopes must remain unblemished, though the human agent remains muddied with sin.
That's the sketchy summary, but the full form was a real doozy, albeit quite lengthy. I do assure you Peter, the unposted 'setup' in no way portrayed any of the alluded personages in a negative way, save, to varying degrees, as victims of arbitrary, perhaps unrealistically high, and possibly-irrelevant standards and expectations.
...save perhaps for the Confederate Kings: they are there for more than having been victims. Their fate, and more importantly their stupefying failures, perhaps mirrors that of the MO industry today, and the Iberian peninsula was all the poorer for it.
If you want the full length, original script, you've but to ask, though I would wish against it, saying to you and to all: perhaps it's better to leave such diversions astern, as they ill-fit a time when our very hopes and labours are under siege as never before.
