nor has there been, regarding any discussion here about mac (and by extension, mamti), since this:

it provides some interesting background and gossip about alot of the 'behind the scenes' stuff, some of the emails are almost prophetic, most show how little anyone who dislikes mac has accomplished, from a practical standpoint

That is the reason why AMDA won't go anywhere.

Since vitz wants to dredge up ancient history let me put it in its proper perspective. The AMDA forum was new I believe, and just got up and running after that wonderful meeting in Ft. Lauderdale where the vote was to let AMDA go inactive. Yeah this was the same meeting the dynamic Paul Holthus introduced himself in the manner Chris described in the other thread. Like a Phoenix, a new BOD comprised of Randy as Pres, Mike King as Vice, and Mary on the BOD as Sec or Treas. rose up from the ashes. To this day don't know how all of that came about after the membership voted to go inactive. :? I guess Rick O had a hand since he went from former Pres to BOD memeber. As it turned out the new board decided to to take the group toward a new program they were trying to establish called the Platium Program. It was an AMDA certification program much like MACs. While well intended, this new direction was planned in secrete and meant as a surprise (for members) at the next meeting at the Baltimore MACNA. It turned out to be another contentious meeting with Paul H and Dave V in attendance. The Michigan mafia vetoed Mary's attempt to offer discounts to the members on her Fiji liverock. Paul pretty much let us know he didn't care much for the Platium Program idea. Around this time the forum started really get active. Elwyn informed us that MAC standards would hold us to 1% DOA and 1%DAA. You could actually hear the red flags popping up all over the country. :lol: . The more we dug, and the more we learned about the MAC the greater the concerns grew. Many of our valid questions went unanswered, and remained that way until the recent release of the MAMTI Manifesto, this past week. We eventually learned in the Pet Product News article that the feasibilty test cases that proved the 1% numbers were achievable, were actually faked and never done. More red flags and alarms. In that article Walt Smith and Tony Nahaky were identified as the two industry people who said the 1% was doable, although Walt later backed-up when pressed on the issue. Amid all the accusations and confusion, a deeply split AMDA BOD decided to endorse the MAC without consulting the membership at large for their opinions. Mary resigned from the MAC BOD and then from AMDA over all the dirty dealings. What a frigging mess. It caused suspicion and hardfeelings that exist to this day. The main accomplishment of AMDA is that it has somehow remained free and out from under the thumb of the oppressive Paul H and the MAC, despite the edorsement by the former BOD. That fact alone is quite an accomplishment, and one of which I am very proud. Note: Read the full MAMTI manifesto to see how many of the independent retailers will be vaporized when the plan comes together. Freedom don't come free guys. Some of us have fought hard for the little guys. We slowed the monster down but we can't declaw it alone. If you are a dealer and you want to see free enterprise survive in this industry, you should get off your duff and pony up the $50.00 for AMDA membership and help us fight for compromise. What a long strange trip it's been.

Note: Edited to correct the change in bold. They said it could be done. The rest of the industry did not agree. Although the figures are kept deeply secrete, I don't believe the few MAC certified fish that have been coming through have managed to achieve the optimistic numbers that were hoped for. I urge the MAC to release this data so we can judge for ourselves.

Vitz just wants to ship coral thru the mail. Thats the driving force behind his vendetta against the current BOD of AMDA.. SillY, petty, unfortunate actually. Buy he did make it clear that he does not represent CORL in his diatribes...so we must keep that in mind.

the sole reason for posting the link was to provide some interesting background about the game and the players to those who aren't aware of what was going on back then, and how similiar it is to what's going on today, AND how some folks back then had mac pegged correctly, as a good reason for worry

why do you assume i'm even really concerned about who's on amda's board? :roll: (amda isn't exactly a 'mover and shaker' org. for me to be concerned with, atm, imo) seems like the amda so far isn't involved in much, other than alot of yelling and fingerpointing, which will accomplish just about as much as it did back then :?

As a further word of explanation. I sent a couple of emails to Bob because I had heard he was also concerned about the MAC. Most of the really good juicy stuff that hit AMDA forum was not sent to Bob. A lot of that stuff could have been prevented by better communications lines from the MAC, although Dave V did get on there and answer a few questions. A great deal of the dirty landry was not aired in public. Many can be thankful for that.

PS I told Bob he could spread those emails around to other industry people. I didn't think he was going to post them on the internet however. I guess the lesson is to always speak the truth in these matter or it will come back and bite you. Sure glad I was honest.
