I would be worried if I were your wife
but since I dont sleep with you and your tangs LOL you can think what you feel without me passing judgement....though if you want my honest "opinion" its crazy..all fish are dumb if you ask me ..they live to breed and eat and become food for something bigger than them

everything they do is just instinct

We collect them for our adorement...this is what seperates us from cromagnon men ,they were like fish..they lived on instinct

If you and others think that hobbyists don't get attached to their fish, it is time you get out of the business.

OK ,
Of course Hobbyists get attached to their fish...
Just like the people who often risk all and gamble all to get them are attached to their lives, wives and mortgages.
This is a dangerous game and a risky business and the mission to bring in ever more pretty and interesting fish kills divers every year. Others go bankrupt and a few even go to jail.
But yes Wayne, without the hobbyists who care about their fish, where would the rest of us be?
Steve
PS. The wife says we'd be better off and making real money like trades that demand far less talent and knowledge.

Tangs are bovine....dumb, erratic, hysterical and easy to catch....if you miss em, wait a few minutes and they'll forget what happened.

Groupers more like veloceraptors or coyotes...light years more intelligent.
You miss a shot at collecting a miniatus grouper and its over. Just move on.
Steve

Yup, have to agree. Groupers see fishermen, they bolt. Tangs... They are the cows of the sea.

Dory of Saving Nemo fame was pretty accurate.
All my tangs have been able to learn is that I am the source of food.
And it took them a while. The other fish learned that much faster.

you said tangs were "smart"what does that have to do with your generalized comment about us being attached to our fish??????

I am attached to a pair of clowns that stick their head out the water to feed out my hand ,but that dont mean they are smart, just hungry

if they were smart they would never end up in our glass boxs to begin with imo

btw

if you really think they are smart, which means they would rember their conrad fish and family then you should be ashamed(imo) to keep them as prisoners, and let them live out their lives the way they choose

since they would be capable of making their own choices

to answer your question about making animals suffer & going to hell...if you torture rats with hack saws and pull wings off flies I'd be worried.

Guys no. no no no.

Tangs are intelligent. Think about it. Wildlife like dolphins and whales, are like tangs and are intelligent because they 'socialize' (sorry for the use of this word rightys) with man. Fishers take advantage of that but that does not make them dumb or bovine.

After thinking about this thread on tangs are an intelligent fish,
I have realized that I might be a tad biased so let's call in the experts.

Could someone ask Terry Segal and/or Scott Michael to give us their opinion.
If I am wrong, I will eat crow.

Humans are "smart" the rest live on instinct(in comparison) thats just a fact...or else there would be a tang heaven..they are put here to serve us.

they may be smart if you compare them to a cockroach

Why not simply ask one of them yourself Wayne? Why do we need to ask them for you?

Tangs are dumb, plain and simple. The cows of the sea Wayne.

OK Fair enough. I will contact Mr. Segal. Would you kindly contact Scott Michael as I have no idea where he can be reached. Thanks

It is nice to see that some in the trade appear to have a conscience. Too bad none of it is translated into ensuring that there is conservation of coral reefs.
