I've been asked to help Mod this forum and so I thought introductions were in order.
I've been involved in retail, wholesale, research and aquaculture/mariculture at various points in my career. However, I'm currently working full-time as an accountant for an indie media NPO.
I currently am VP, Treasurer and event/sponsor coordinator for Bay Area Reefers, a newish non-profit reef club.
I just got back from a week in Tonga consulting on an environmentally positive coral farm (sustainability is second best) which is a private/public partnership.
I'm not employed in the Biz at this time and have no plans to be.
I keep a 135g reef (stonies mostly) and a 65g (soon to be 100g) for my softies and LPS'.
I have a strong belief that this forum can be constructive, fun and very useful and if we don't take ourselves too seriously we can openly share some insights to everyones benefit.
I believe in very free and open speech but personally have little time for negativity. We're all adults, we all want to see positive change and we need to respect everyone despite their opinions. This forum can help us learn to work together.
I'll be posting some threads for discussion in the next few weeks and I hope you will all join in.
And feel free to tell me I'm wrong. If that's your opinion, you're entitled to express it here.
Thanks and here's hoping I'm worthy!-Jim

Hi Jim
I received your e-mail BTW,
Next time your in the hood (South Pacific) drop in at the rock (American Samoa) its only like $70.00 from Apia to Pago Pago via
Polynesian air or take the boat ride over if you have the time.
Diving is better in Western Samoa than here on the main island of AS, our outer island reefs are still in good shape, but there's no dive shops to rent equipment from.

Yes if and when I ever make it back state side I'd love to stop by and talk, I could even do a chat at the club if there's time and you want.

BTW if the coral farm is beneficial to the environment I term it "eco-beneficial"(the ultimate goal of all of CORL's Coral farming projects). To create an eco-beneficial mariculture project one must plan very carefully, it isn’t just the location of the coral farm and habitat rehabilitation and restoration projects that need to be planned, but a whole ecosystem management plan must be incorporated into the project to assure that there truly is a net positive result for the ecosystem. It’s really quite complicated especially here in AS and throughout the S. Pacific where culture and traditional resource use (and ownership) can be a PITA when it comes to making a long-range management plans that would insure a sustainable future. (That’s more of a topic for ICRI than here so I’ll stop there.) :)

Welcome to RDO and the Ind. Forum.

I do have a last name. It's Adelberg.
Mike, thanks for the invite and I hope we get a chance to hang out somewhere sometime.
You are definitely right about the level of work required to plan (let alone administer) any project of the sort we're discussing.
But that's part of the challenge!
Again, thanks to all for the warm welcome.-Jim

Thanks for coming out Jim. It is a necessary first step in working toward one of the possible goals righty mentioned when searching for ways to make the forum more useful. "We are looking at ways to make this forum more useful. One of the complaints we get is the problem of alias and drop in trollers enraging the discussion. Since the group of industry people is not too large, Glenn, Len and I have been discussing the idea of making this forum readable by all, but only post-able to by people in an approved group"

I remember how difficult it was uncloaking Wayne Ryan and Jeff Koutnik. :P Deepthroat ain't needed in the industry forum.

It just never occurred to me to post my last name since I don't usually use it on-line.
I agree that trollers are a problem and I'll do my best to keep them from being a problem in this forum.
Cheers :D -Jim

Adelberg. Good for you.

In the interests of fair play, we expect the same balanced moderating that we have grown accustomed to.
