I recieved some zoos from a Bali transshipment before, that were dry shipped like rock, the color was not as good as some I have aquired from another source that used water, mabey due to the stress, mabey due to the location

Is it possible to dry ship, boxs full, so as to double the amount per box :?:

or is this just a lame brain idea....the exporter agreed to try it

zoo's can live iunsubmerged on shore lines but they are constantly spashed and only stay out of water for a while..

maby ythis i\s what they were thinking but i think it is bs to try and ship them like that.

I have had them shipped from Bali like that, but not by my request...thats just how they sent them..they were not of good quality at all though, compared to some I have recieved from other spots shipped in water.
I thought it may have been due to stress..but they also sent some green stars like that, that were awesome

zoos are usually shipped 'damp' because they ship far better that way, as a general rule, then if submerged, for the same reasons live rock is...

underwater, they excrete waste, and sit in their own waste in the bag

damp, they close up, and can breath O2 directly from the air

usually it translates into them looking deflated for a few days

they should ALWAYS be placed in high flow areas for the first 3-4 days, minimum, upon arrival, to avoid fungal/bacterial infections form the trauma

the best shippers always pack zoos, rock, and (even, yes!) anemones, damp, not wet

Hi folks,
Sometimes we find zoanthid fields high and dry for hours in ultra low tides.
A day like this in some places can have both 100 degree temps and then high dessicating winds. One can only wonder about the limit of their tolerances.

BS? Well tell that to almost the entire industry, as most are shipped from the field that way and have been done so for many many years. I personally have unbagged thousands upon thousands this way with little if any ill effect on them.

I have gotten them both ways, dry and damp. Prefer the damp ones, but the cost of the dry far out ways the benefit of the damp. I would say with the dry there is an exceptable level of loss for the cost.

Most of the suppliers I have seen ship them in 'dry'. They do this for star polyps and yellow polyps as well. I even frequently seen anemones packed in no water - shipped 'dry' with their own water they retained inside of them for moisture.
they all seem to ship fine in this way.

for the corals it is probably just as well that they ship like this since theres always a lot of sea squirts and sponges on the rock. They'd likely foul the water during shipping. Plus the water weight would be more in freight for them.

The zoanthids will color back up after a while.

:)
