Does any one think its fair to have a local "Cherry Picker" (an a**hole of one at that) after hours, inside one of the wholesaler's, cherry picking corals as they arrive? I have seen this practice done lately at one of them, cough..PAF..cough.
I think it is totally unfair!! I have spoke with other store owners and they are very ticked that they allow this. We, who get there at 7:30AM to wait for the gate's to open only to see all the cherry stuff put aside for this CP....If you read this Dave, please make it a little fairer for the rest of us. We would really appreciate us.
Now I know why companies like SDC and fish heads ban Cherry picker's.

Thanks,
CD

Dave has always been a fair, reasonable, and straightforward person to me, did you try speaking with him before bashing them publically? If you are ticked off about someone cherry-picking before you get a chance to cherry pick, just imagine the other stores around the country that do not have the opportunity to walk in at all, I think most folks would say you are quite lucky that you are in the area and get to go there whenever you want.

BTW, if you think the others do not allow cherry picking, think twice, what they say in public and what they do may be different--but it is their business and they have the right to sell to whoever they wish in any legal manner they wish. Cherry picking, or the equivelant thereof, is done in a number of other ways too, most wholesalers, if not all, have an inhouse etailer, do drop shipping of their entire stock for an etailer, have their own site, or their own retail outlet. It's just the way the business is nowadays.

Dr Mac, you have nothing to worry about because you have your own in-house cherry picker, don't think we are that lucky for being located here in LA, I see some of the stuff your sales rep has put aside from you(and other stores across the country), and he picks while the shipments are being opened as well. Which is cool..what-ever. I don't like that us local guy's have to fight with "each" other to pick through "leftovers". I have seen and heard of people fighting, swearing and threaten each over who gets corals. Which is kind of funny.

I'm not bashing PAF, and from what I know, Dave is a stand up guy.And I have brought to his attention in the past, but nothing changes. And he CAN do what ever he wants, its his business, I just would like it to be a little fairer. Thay have treated me right in the past as well.

I just know a few of us here locally want to get a piece of "cherry" pie.

Waaaa!
CD

public or not, chery picking/reserves take place in every wholesaler i suspect. Certainly no way to find out if they are truthful, so assume not...It's dog eat dog and big money talks...ugly, but reality.

I've also heard that alot of bribe money goes to sales reps who hook up costomers....lol.

JMHO but I think it's dirty pool to call out a wholesaler and name names in this forum. If you have an issue with a business, the appropriate place to take it up is with them, directly.

As for cherry picking - be glad you have all of 104th and environs to pick from, from whatever establishments permit such things. Not all of us have choices.

My experience with the smaller suppliers I deal with, is that they work on a first-come-first-served basis, but if you communicate with your rep and let him/her know what you are looking for specifically, they will notify you if that becomes available. If that fits the definition of "cherry picking" then everybody I've ever dealt with does it, whether or not they allow people into their facility.

If you take it to that extreme, then the only "fair" way to get the best stuff would be if each vendor drew a random lottery among all their customers to determine who gets what, and that's just plain silly.

Not speaking spefically to this issue with this vendor, but the bottom line, as a retailer, you have a choice of wholesalers to buy from. You don't like one, there are plenty of others. Shop around until you find one that gives you the quality and service you desire. Nobody has a monopoly.

This is nothing new for this unnamed "CoralDemon", he pulled this same crap with the same wholesaler a couple months ago. All 8 of his total posts have been related to bashing Pacific Aqua Farms. I suggest "CoralDemon" and "onevoice", the one post wonder, read the recent sticky thread.

I've locked a similar thread of yours in the past. If you have a problem with the service you recieve from a wholesaler, contact them directly. This is not the place to resolve it. Discussions on the ethics of cherry picking is fine, but not when it pertains to specific businesses.
