Hey,
Its an old photo w/ lots of retouching.
They sure got tame in a hurry though and just loved corn tortillas.
We'd take 200 back then and stop. Bring back 200...and sell 200.
Thats all the live wells can hold without damging the fish.
The smugglers OF THIS DECADE collected 500 ... lost half and ruined another 1/4 of them.
They were amatuers...but they did know who to pay.

Speaking of Oso , did you know that Eric Cohen of SDC and I both attended an elementary school in LA named "OSO" ?

No, now that I think of it this was in the early 1970s.
1980 -81 s was when Eric and I were in High school double dating Lisa Kudrow from "Friends" fame ! :wink:

[clue] its a two headed abomination from an unholy union between two non Pacific fishes.

We all have a Brenda story. He got my husband for $1000 when he was A1 Tropicals in FL. Brenda didn't know that he had a brother-in-law in the Keys. When the brother-in-law and his boys went to pay a visit to him, Brenda wasn't home so they left. They weren't a mile down the road when they were pulled over by the DEA and were asked what were they doing at Brenda's house. Needless to say, fortunately hubby did get his money back through another friend in the states.
For those who don't know, Brenda has been a major blight on the ornamental industry for years- going back to the FL Keys and all the crap he pulled in the Bay Islands and in Honduras. He is the reason that they banned fish collecting in the Bay Islands.
When I met him back in Honduras 2000, he was getting hundreds of thousands of land hermits in the keys off Belize. Since he didn't have a permit to collect them, what he did was pencil the words "Land Hermits" on the bottom of his permit. I saw a copy of it with my own eyes.
He was also getting catching undersized lobsters by the bushels w/hooka rig and selling just the tails to the local restaurants. As for his wife, Sulma, although she may come from a supposed affluent family in Honduras, she doesn't seem all that bright. Maybe it was just an act, barefoot and pregnant. She didn't talk much so I'm sure she was going along for the ride.
We returned to Honduras a few months later, he had split and ran out on his landlord and expenses at the gas station and hardware store, etc. He had sold this boat to two different people. The Hondurian govt had a warrant out for him for the land hermits. Sulma can play the victim and her family will keep her safe.
If we don't hear anything it's probably because he copped a plea and rolled on people who will kill him. He's probably under witness protection.

I was only out $1500 after my turn getting fleeced by Brenda. When I was dealing with him just before he got busted, Sulma was running all of the business/financial end of the company and everything went through her...from billing invoices to writing checks.
Now finding out all that he was into, I would be surprised if he didn't cop a good deal in turn for his testimony against others.

Funny, so Mrs. Brenda had her act in place. She played it to the hilt when we met her. This woman barely "knew" english and she was just doing the hiding in the background thing.
After meeting the guy and seeing how he operated his business. We know that he wasn't smart enough to do things on his own. He definetly had help.
This is a funny one, he was pumping in water from the Port of Cortes, Honduras and wondering why his fish were getting sick. I would compare the water in the Port of Cortes to the East River in NY.
My husband went out there on behalf of one of his wholesalers who was looking to acquire a collection station in Central America. Brenda claimed that he could supply unlimited amounts of Queen Angels and Black Capped Basslets. After diving with him for a week, and not finding any of these two prime species, he asked Brenda where they were and they needed to be seen in quantities. Brenda showed him on a map where they were, it was one of the cays off of Belize.
My husband asked him, "Isn't that illegal?" and Brenda replied, "Only if you get caught".
That pretty much sums him up.
Hopefully justice will be done. If he gets away with it this time, he will fall on his own again because he is a habitual lowlife thief. If the feds don't get him, someone in the "under world" will.

He looks like a weasel, or maybe a rat. I'm just glad that I got out of the relationship only $1500 in the hole. He played things pretty straight with me because he knew I wouldn't skirt the law. Until the Clarion fiasco hit and he started changing his story to fit the situation...then his stripes became apparent.
Heck, I've had dinner with his entire family...including his dad. Oh well, won't make that mistake again.
