Dizzy it is purely political because the information you posted comes from a far-right website.
I would like to know the facts.
Has anyone been charged and more particularly has Wade Rathke and/or
Drummond Pike been charged?

But more on point could we have a little background on the current good work these organizations are doing for the hobby/industry? Thanks.

Also are these organizations, organizations industry and the hobby should be involved in the promote our point of view and support reeform in industry.

Hope NYT is not to far right for you.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/us/09 ... ref=slogin

and http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/us/17 ... ike&st=cse

People can draw their own conclusions as to the character of these Tides leaders.

PS
If all the airline carriers are union organized it may affect the cost of having fish shipped. If you think that is not an issue that should be discussed here then I respectfully disagree.l IME the union carriers are less interested in customer service than say a non-union compay like Southwest Airlines. Doing business in today's climate is difficult enough without increased cost and hardships.

Dizzy has anyone been charged?
Has anyone been convicted?

Workers of the world have the right to organize themselfves into a union to earn a decent wage. (Do the fishers in the Philippines earn a decent wage?)

Workers of the world have the right to organize themselves into a union to protect them from unsafe practices at the workplace. (Do the fishers in Tonga work in safe conditions?)

The right to be presumed innocent and the right to organize into a union are fundamental human rights.
Greed is not!

Anytime a new law or regulation is passed that impacts our industry it is about politics. Whether it be shutting down live rock from Tonga or limiting the number of yellow tangs taken in Hawaii, to new regs for collecting zoanthids in Florida. But you guys are right we should be reactive and not proactive when it comes to our livelihood. Que sera sera.

PS
I can remember the time when Mary lead the charge to stop all caulerpa from being banned. How political was that.

Dude, your talking about Canada and oil, how does that pertain to the Tide Center? You strayed from the topic at hand into an area that is against the UA of this forum and you jab me for calling you on it? Fine, continue playing with Neasco, you know it serves no purpose. No where is the tin foil cap Mary left behind

Most carriers I use, besides SWA are union. I have no problems with them now, nor have I in the past for the most part. Fares will be less at SWA, but that has NOTHING to do with unions and more to do with them playing in the oil futures a few years back. A bold and very profitable venture. The employee who brought it about brought millions upon millions into the company. Wise investing helped them from going to the darkside, er, unionized :)

But what does Oil in Canada and Wayne have to do with this?

Although much of what is discussed in this forum is in some way political, it is not an open invitation to bring in other politics not DIRECTLY related to our industry. We mods trust the adults on this forum to know where to draw that line but if there are any questions, please err on the non-political side or feel free to ask a mod in advance of posting. Thanks-Jim

What oil? Your reading comprehension ain't to good.

PS
Let me add this disclaimer: Just because I posted an article that showed that ACORN did the right thing by removing Wade Rathke from the BOD, does not mean I support or endorse ACORN in any way. It was only done to show that Rathke has been involved in covering up fraud and it is relevant since he is founding partner & BOD member of the Tides Center which funds reform projects in our industry. I hope that clears things up for you.

I thought Canada was a green country. How can they strip the shale, while the Democrats block the US from doing the same? We got resources in this country too.

You knew what I was talking about....your just stuck on politics this month

Gresham full disclosure. I'm not a Republican or Democrat. I don't have a dog in the fight. However I do get concerned when issues effect my ability to earn a livelihood.

I don't have any regrets. If anything I feel I didn't go far enough. I'm probably not the only retailer or wholesaler concerned about assaults on capitalism, since most people do "actually" go into business to try and make money. (believe it or not) To me it more a survival issue than a political one. But politics are part of everything and if only one lfs googles Cloward-Pivens Strategy it will have been worth the time it took to post. I've spent the last 23-years trying to run an honest business in an environmentally friendly manner. When I see events happening that are going to make it harder for lfs to keep their doors open, my reaction is to try and inform my fellow travelers, and not to stick my head in the sand.

By the way I wasn't going to post anymore to the thread, but I felt your post needed a response. But I'm going to let it be now.

One thing that is clear from this thread is that the MAC had (or has) a conflict of interest. It supported the creation of the Reef Product Alliance (RPA) a Tide Center funded project created by CCIF (a MAC partner in MAMTI). The RPA would have given a monopoly to some importers at the expense of others and hurt small retailers.

Now the MAC states that it is not in the business of training fish collectors and leaves that to its daughter NGOs (such as LINI). But, I believe there is still a hidden agenda to vertically integrate the aquarium trade to the benefit of big business interests.

Steve Robinson revealed that a funding agency associated with a large corporation had (and may still have) the goal of getting into the aquarium trade. So, its funding to groups like MAC was not purely motivated by philanthropy and conservation.

I recently learned that Segrest Farms was bought out by another large corporate group. This makes sense because it owns PetsMart. Hence, they bought out their major fish supplier (Segrest Farms).

These corporations hide much of what they are doing with groups like MAC and WWF by funneling funds through the Tides Center. It does impact the aquarium trade, but we don't know enough about it.

Mitch, I have a high respect for your business ethics and you ability to run a tight ship. That has never been in question by me ;)
