After working for the same company for the last 15 years, I just found out that my job is being done away with Jan. 7th. What a nice way to start out the new year. 8O

For about the last year I've been doing aquarium maintenance and custom installs on the side and have been making pretty good money. I've been wanting to start it full time, but I was really worried about leaving the secure job. Well, now I don't have any choice, and I've decided to make the plunge into full time maintenance. Since part of my severance package is one years pay I have the security to take my time and do things right.

Up until now I've always worked out of my home, and I've noticed that none of the wholesalers want to talk to me. Well, one of my maintenance customers had an empty suite in his office complex and he gave it to me rent free for a year to help me get started. It's not huge (20' x 30'), but the price was right. I've started moving tanks from my fish room at home into it for holding tanks and have 600 gallons set up so far (800 gallons with the sumps). I hope to have at least 2000 gallons by the end of the year.

Now for a few questions:

  • Does anyone have a copy of a maintenance contract they could send me? I've just been doing it on a hand shake, but I would like to start getting my customers under contract.

Does anyone know any quality wholesalers that will sell to maintenance companies and small retail outlets. I'm currently getting all my paperwork together for permits and licences, and should have it all done this week.

If anyone here is in the maintenance business please offer any suggestions or tips you have.

Thanks for all your help.

If you check the archives in this forum I believe there was a good discussion amongst the crazy :D Georgia folks about this exact topic.
