Forgive me for asking a none fish & reef question, but...

What are your learned opinions on the American Canine Association and other dog registrations vs. the AKC?

Thanks,
Lee

damn, i thought we were gonna get treated to some pythonesque humor!

:P

my thoughts on registration in general ?

completely a non-issue for anyone who isn't interested in either breeding, or needing to prove the value of their dog in more intrinsic terms ;)

i've only ever heard of the AKC, re: registrations and standards

is a dog that's registered at one not considered as 'valid' by the other ?

(pssst Lee... it's from a Monty Python skit... it's just a joke)...

"Yes it is."

"No it isn't"

"Yes it IS"

"NO it ISN'T"

"This isn't an argument, it's a contradiction!"

;)

I realize that it is from a Monty Python skit.

However, I'm certain that do not wish to purchase an argument. You'd rather purchase a puppy.

As long as I don't have to purchase a (dead) parrot... an ex-parrot, a parrot that has ceased to be....

No, no.....No, 'e's stunned!

Jeepers... I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition

However, I still contend that you do not wish to purchase an argument.

"He's NAILED to the perch!"

"Beware the Killer Rabbit.... "

"Bring me a bucket...."

And who could forget... "I wish to buy a licence for my pet fish, 'Eric'."

I've checked with a priest, a psychologist and a social worker; you definitely DO NOT want to purchase an argument.

Guys,

Do this in the sump please. I am leaving this thread here for now because it somehow has some seeds of being tangentially connected to the industry.

Anyone have experience with dog certifications?

There are many dog registries in this country, some are certainly more "legitimate" than others, and they can serve different purposes.

Which one you choose to register a dog with depends on what your goals are for a particular dog, are you simply wanting to establish proof of ownership? Perhaps you want to breed and have the puppies' pedigree tracked by the registry? Or perhaps you want to compete with a dog in dog sports or competitions hosted by the club? Or do you want to be able to show and title your dog in recognized breed shows so you can prove the breeding merit of the dogs you produce? There are even some registries that exist for the sole purpose of providing essentially worthless "papers" for unscrupulous breeders to wow novice dog buyers with, which is why research is very important if you are looking to buy a purebred dog.

So, why do you want to register your dog? To be honest, I have not looked into that group before as they do not host any events that I compete in, and there are some things about their web site that make me very suspicious. But if you want help enrolling your dog into a registry I can help point you towards an ethical one that suits your needs, just send me a pm!

Why do you want a registered dog when there are so many dogs at the Spca or local animal shelter that you can get?

I have a registered cat, her name is Lady Pixel and she is a royal pia. Its much better to get a mixed up mutt than a purebred, almost all of them have problems specific to the breeds.

Adopt from a shelter man!

I enjoyed the MP skits....

I'd be totally happy with a dog from a rescue or a pound. However, several in my household have allergies so we are interested in a non-shedding variety, in this case a schnauzer.
