Author(s) / Editor(s) Tetra Tech EM, Inc.; Philippines. Dept. of Agriculture. Bur. of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources; USAID. Mission to Philippines
Description Background and Project Summary
The Fisheries Improved for Sustainable Harvest (FISH) Project is a 7-year (2003-2010) technical assistance project consisting of a 5-year base period and a 2-year extension period, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), national government agencies, local government units (LGU), non-government organizations (NGO) and other assisting organizations.

Tetra Tech EM Inc. (Tetra Tech) is the FISH Project’s prime contractor and is supported by a technical team of project staff and subcontractors. The FISH Project provides training and technical assistance that will address key fisheries management issues and will support national and local activities to achieve an expected result of 10 percent increase in fish stocks in four focal areas by 2010 (Figure ES-1). The implementation of the project is guided by the FISH Project results framework, which forms part of the basis in measuring the project’s performance in carrying out its work plan activities.

This 2005 annual performance report covers the period from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005 and gives a snapshot of key accomplishments during the second year implementation period as described in this executive summary. The detailed activities in the first three quarters are chronicled in the quarterly performance reports submitted earlier while the detailed account of the activities of the 4th quarter of 2005 is embodied in this report.

The three postings above discuss the FISH Project sponsored by USAID-Philippines. The last report listed gives a lot of specific information concerning species diversity, the fisheries, condition of the coral reefs, and the condition of MPAs in the four areas listed. There are maps of the areas and sampling locations are depicted. You will need a good broad band connection to be able to download the PDF files (particularly the last report).

Please read and provide your comments. While, aquarium fishes are not specifically discussed, the last report discusses the status of areas in the Philippines, that we have been discussing with regard to MAC/ReefCheck's programs through MAMTI.
