The King of Tonga may have just died.
Its not out in the general news yet, but Tongans here in the Bay area are abuzz with the news that the king is dead.

King of Tonga dies

The Tongan community is mourning the death of King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV.


A Tongan website claims the King passed away at Mercy Hospital in Auckland before midnight. The 88-year-old had been gravely ill since July.


The Tongan Government is expected to make a formal announcement later today.


The King's wife and other members of the royal family recently joined him at his bedside to celebrate Father's Day.

Wow. He has been hanging on for a long time - he has been sick off an on since last year.

At least a year of mourning begins.
